Creating a system image in .iso format

Hello,

I want to create an image of my system (XP) with my data in .iso format on an external hard drive.

With this image, I would like to use it with VMware.

What software do you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 6.0.2

Acronis is pretty good for making a disk image..

However, when it comes to putting it in a virtual machine, it will work if you install this image on the same machine as the source.

Putting this image in a virtual machine on another computer is very likely to not work if that computer is not identical (hardware) to the source.

Hello,

Acronis is definitely a good option because VMware Converter Standalone (which allows you to create VMware virtual machines) supports the Acronis format (.tib), but not .iso.

Another solution would be to install VMware Converter directly on the machine to be converted and create a hot virtual image on, for example, an external drive.

Best regards,

Thank you very much,

I will test with VMware Converter Standalone.
Enjoy!

Argh, it doesn't work:

"Invalid configuration file. File "F:\image test\monpc\monpc.vmx" was created by a VMware product with more features than this version of VMware Player and cannot be used with this version of VMware Player.
Cannot open configuration file F:\image test\monpc\monpc.vmx."

F:\ is my external hard drive.

I am using the following software:
VMware-converter-all-5.0.0-470252.exe
VMware-player-3.1.4-385536.exe

It's just that for the destination machine, you must not have chosen an adequate type; you need to select "vmware workstation or another virtual machine" as the destination type and "vmplayer 3.0" as the product.

(The converter 3.0 might be too old; I use 4.3, and 5.0 has just been released, it’s only 10 days old.)
