Hello,

So, as soon as the first PS3s came out, I bought mine. The only problem was that it was a 40 GB...
Today, I saw an offer from a video game store that is selling a White PS3 Slim.
I’m going to buy it, but the problem is that I don’t know how to transfer the data from my old PS3 to this one. I can't do a PS3 to PS3 transfer because the old one will be for my dad. (that deletes the data from the old PS3)

So, I hope you can help me.
Thank you in advance.

Configuration: iPhone / Safari 6533.18.5

SAVE

If you only want to keep your game saves, you simply need a USB key or a memory card, onto which you will manually copy your saves by selecting them in the menu (press triangle, then "copy" and select your storage medium).

However, some game saves are protected and you will not be able to manually copy them to your hard drive. The only solution is to back up the entire hard drive to retrieve all saves and account information.

If you want to back up all your data, that is, your demos, music, photos, etc., you will need an external hard drive formatted in FAT32 (see the tutorial below). We will detail the steps to follow below.

Required equipment:

A PlayStation 3
An external storage device of at least 20GB

Turn on your PS3 and connect an external storage device, here an external hard drive.

Then go to Backup Utility under Settings > System Settings on the XMB.

Next, select "Back Up".

Select "Yes".

Now select your external storage device, here a reminder of an external hard drive.

The following messages will appear on the screen in order:

"Preparing... Please wait."
"Backup Copy in progress... Do not remove the storage device."
"Time remaining: Approximately 41 minutes" (for example).

Once completed, you will receive a message indicating that the backup is finished along with its size (19 GB in our case after deleting all photos, music, and movies). You have now backed up your data, we can move on to the next step.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RESTORE

To recover your old data, go to "Restore" under Settings > System Settings > Backup Utility.

Choose the device where you made your backup.

Next, choose your backup. Logically, there should only be one.

The system will reformat the PS3 hard drive and then ask you to press the PS button, after which it will copy the backup to the hard drive.

Once the copy is complete, you can check that your game saves are indeed present.

Your PlayStation 3 is now fully operational.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FORMAT TO FAT32

Principle: This tutorial will allow you to fully convert your external hard drive to FAT32, to be readable on the PS3.

A quick note:

An NTFS formatted hard drive is not readable by PS3, so you need to adopt the FAT32 format. Under Windows, the hard drive will be formatted up to a maximum of 32GB. But thanks to this program, it will be possible to format it completely.
Before you start, you need to check the format of the hard drive; it would be pointless to do the conversion if the hard drive is already in the desired format.

Checking the hard drive

Under Windows XP:

Right-click on My Computer, then click on Manage.

In the window that opens, click on Storage, then Disk Management.

Finally, locate your hard drive in the "Volume" column, and check the type using the File System column.
If it is already in FAT32, you do not need to do anything, but if it is in NTFS, it will need to be converted.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conversion to FAT32

What we need:

An external USB hard drive.
The SwissKnife software.
A PC running Windows XP or an earlier version.

Note: Windows Vista is not compatible with the software.

Installation of the software

Launch it.

Click Next

Accept the license by clicking YES.

Click Next if the installation folder suits you.

Choose or leave it as is (this will be the name of the folder in your "All Programs" menu).

Click Next.

Check the box "Yes, I want to launch SwissKnife now".

Using the software

The SwissKnife software should open and display this window.
In the list named USB, find your hard drive by its capacity, then click on "Partition and Quick Format"

Warning: Remember to back up the data on your external hard drive because the formatting that will follow will delete them completely.

Press the "Delete" button when you are ready.

Click YES to confirm.

Now we are going to convert your hard drive to FAT32.
In Partition Type, select Primary, in File System, choose FAT32, and finally in Volume Label, put the name you want to give to your hard drive. Make sure the pie chart is completely purple; if it is not, use the arrows on the right to fill it in. When everything is done, click on Create to launch the new FAT32 partition.

After a few seconds or minutes, the software will have completed the conversion, and it will show the status "Formatted" to indicate success.

You can now connect your external hard drive converted to FAT32 to your PlayStation 3 and enjoy multimedia storage.

Hi, I’ve already done a data transfer from a classic PS3 to a slim PS3. For that, I went to Sony's website which provides the operating instructions for the PS3, but unfortunately, I don’t remember the website's address. Otherwise, check the Ultimate PS3 site; they might have a tutorial for that. What I can tell you is that personally, they say that nothing remains as data once the transfer is completed, yet my PS3 still has game data, save files, music, photos, everything, even my player profile. However, on Xbox 360, once transferred, there is no more data left on the console from which the transfer was made. Personally, if I were you, I would wait for other users' opinions because in my case, it might just be a lucky chance. :)
