Windows 7 won't start: Startup repair

Question

Hello,

I am desperate and I don't know who to turn to.

My laptop (a HP G61 - 430SF) is unable to start.
I turn it on, it starts up correctly, all the lights come on as expected but then:
Black screen with 2 options:
- Launch system recovery tool (recommended)
- Start Windows normally
By choosing the first option, I get a window: "System Recovery Options" that appears.
In the dropdown menu "select a keyboard input method": I choose "French" and click on "Next".
Then I have a "Startup Repair" window that appears with this message: "Your computer was unable to start". "Startup Repair is checking your system for problems". I see a progress bar and above it, it says "Searching for problem" and then, after 5 minutes, "Attempting to repair" ... And this has been going on for 20 minutes. What should I do?

Thank you in advance for your responses, I am a student in the middle of exam preparation, all my courses are on it, it’s a matter of life or death. =S

I would like to clarify that I have a backup DVD and I inserted it.
I had a black screen with a loading bar at the bottom: "Windows loading files".
After that, I got a window where I chose the "I don't remember what" option which allowed me to do a recovery, but it didn't work, then in computer language in English, I don't understand at all so I am lost, I arrived at a window that allowed me to open files, but how do I choose which one?

Hello, sometimes the repair can take a long time, I would advise you to wait. As for the DVD, avoid using it because if it's a recovery DVD, it will reset your PC to the state it was in when you purchased it and erase everything you have on it...

My roommate has exactly the same problem as you, DivineLulu.

Right now we are waiting a bit before restarting the PC, without really knowing what to do...
I read that to << access the advanced startup options, you need to restart the computer and as soon as the manufacturer's logo disappears (immediately after) press the F8 key. >>

Hello,  same thing with mine: the hard drive has several bad sectors; the disk needs to be replaced and everything reinstalled  Good luck ....

QUICK SOLUTION WITHOUT CD:  Hello everyone, I know this topic is old but I just had the same issue and I solved it by looking around and finally doing it my way.  First of all, know that I am really a novice in computing!  1. When the computer turns on, press the indicated key to enter the Setup menu. 2. Use the arrow keys to move to "Boot". 3. Swap option 1 with option 2. 4. Move to "Exit". 5. Then save and exit. 6. The computer will restart and you just need to select "Start the computer normally" (or something like that..)  Finally, I had been at it for 3 hours and personally it worked for me! I’m relieved because I don’t have a Windows 7 installation CD and I didn’t want to lose all my data.  I hope this helps you!
