Hello, so I actually have a reading problem with Windows Movie Maker. In fact, I would like to edit a video, and when I decide to open a new project or import this video into the library, Windows Movie Maker displays an error message which is as follows (the video I’m trying to import is in AVI, its name is terragravitation):
The file C:\Documents and Settings\zelfi\Mes documents\terragravitron\Le Terragravitron.avi cannot be imported because the codec needed to play it is not installed on your computer. If you have already downloaded and installed the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, then re-import the file.
Then I tried downloading codecs but nothing worked, it was always the same. Could you help me solve my problem?
Thank you

Hello,
My problem seems simpler than everyone else’s, but I’m still struggling a lot..
In Movie Maker, when I want to add a video clip (recorded from a digital camera, and therefore in AVI format) I have no problem importing the video, but when I want to add it to the timeline/montage board, only the AUDIO track is added and WITHOUT the image.
Could you help me find the simple solution to my problem (not too complicated)?
Thanks in advance -
Hello,
I also have a problem (like most people here :] )
I was sent a Windows Movie Maker project but I can’t read it when I open it; the software shows this message:
"the file C:\Documents and settings\me\bureau\projet1.MSWMM was created by an unsupported version of Windows Movie Maker"
I just don’t know which version I have. I downloaded version 2.1 but it still doesn’t work
What should I do???
Thanks in advance -
I have a problem I can't add a video with Windows Movie Maker (the audio is in Quick format)
the message says: "The file C:\Documents and Settings\Mes documents\MATHOU\1287-13_l.mov is not a supported file type and cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker."
I am quite useless when it comes to computers and therefore completely lost. Thank you in advance -
Hello everyone, if someone could help me it would prevent me from venting on my PC ;)
Actually, I created a video with WMM: I probably made a mistake because I saved my project only on "sit" and I shut down the PC. I figured that if I published it on the computer, I wouldn't be able to edit it because I hadn't finished. When I tried to open it, it showed my timeline correctly with the effects etc... but when I try to play it... the music is there but NO photo scrolls! For info, my photos are always in the same location. I don't understand what's going on! Thanks for your help (hoping I don't have to redo everything... there are hours spent on it) -
Hello,
I have a problem with Windows Movie Maker because it imports the photos but not the videos. As soon as I try to import a video, I succeed but a few seconds later it tells me "Windows Movie Maker has stopped working" (on Windows Vista).
Could you please resolve my problem?
Thank you for your understanding.
Have a good day. -

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as Zelfi, Malakal (his first message) and Igor, it’s getting very tedious because I want to make an AMV about Naruto but nothing works—the .avi files won’t import!
Message that appears:
"File D:\Mangas\GTO\GTO Lesson 03.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to read it is not installed on your computer. If you have already downloaded and installed the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, then re-import the file."
Thank you for helping us as soon as possible, please! -
Hello,
Juju, if you have Windows Vista like me, I advise you to download Vista Codecs along with DivX Codecs; very recent new versions have just been released. You’ll see, apparently we had exactly the same problem, except mine is resolved!
On the other hand, a new version of K-Lite Codecs has just come out; I would not recommend taking it, by itself it is insufficient on Vista, normally the ones I just mentioned should be enough. Let me know how you’re getting on and good luck! -
Hello everyone
I created a video with Movie Maker, which I had done before. For the old ones, I go to my video folder and when I open it I can read it right away. For the most recent one, I’m being asked to wait with project verification... So I tried to save this project to my Satrex (sotrex) and to a CD-RW, and I can’t do it. How do I do it? please, it’s a video I wanted to play on my TV for New Year; I spent a lot of time on it and I won’t be able to use it. If you have a solution you’ll save me from a big disappointment. Thank you very much.-
Hello bro, it’s easy ...... in Movie Maker there is:
1 capture the video
2 edit the video
3 finish the video
when you finish your project choose 3 **finish the video** save to my computer then you can open your project under /my videos ***
if you want to save on a CD do: save on a CD
*****my best regards***** IMANE

A big thank you to sauce-to!!! Really, thank you because I will finally be able to get back to anime AMVs!
I’m going to fine-tune those I’ve already made. Go to Daylimotion for that!
My username: Senzo67
Thank you so much sauce-to! -
I have the same problem, my video isn’t supported and I was told to convert my video but I don’t know how to do it.

Me too, I have the same problem, it asks me to install the codec. once installed, it doesn't recognise it. Weird story

Help:
my player reads very well the video embedded on a mini DV from my camcorder. but impossible to copy the video to my PC (on the hard drive). I tried several video capture programs with no result.
yet, I have a brand new PC equipped with Vista.
Thanks for helping me-
Hello
Look at what I found on this forum
1. Prerequisite. The computer must be equipped with a FireWire connector (or iLink or IEEE1394 or DV, it’s the same thing) *. One of two things. Either the computer has it and all is well, or it doesn’t and in that case you need to add this connector to the computer. On PC, recent quality motherboards always have at least one. But, if necessary, installing one is actually simple and cheap (10 €). We open the case and insert the FireWire-equipped card into one of the free PCI slots on the motherboard. Attention: do not use the USB cable that comes with the device to capture video on the computer. USB should only be used for transferring photos or video in low definition. To get good definition, without loss, go only through the FireWire connectors (or iLink or IEEE1394 or DV).
- 2. Connect the camcorder to the computer with the appropriate FireWire cable. Depending on the case, this cable will be a 4/4 or a 6/4, i.e. having a connector that fits on one side to the camcorder and on the other to the computer (the camcorder with DV IN uses the same DV connector to transfer videos (OUT) and receive them (IN)).
- 3. The computer recognizes the camcorder when connected or when it is switched to VCR mode. At this stage, what to answer to the Windows prompt on a PC? Answer: nothing. Why? Because you may need to configure the capture software the first time you use it. Therefore, if this has not already been done, open your capture/editing software and search for its capture interface. If the capture software has not yet been configured or if it has already been used for a capture via USB connectors, you need to configure it to capture in DV. The proper European setting, with a PAL DV camcorder is: DV PAL, 720 X 576, 25 frames per second.
- 4. Next, either start the capture and let the computer transfer the captured file into a default directory, or prefer to make other settings to send the video to a different hard drive than the one intended by the OS (Windows XP on PC). In any case, you are now able to control the camcorder’s video capture. You can still fine-tune settings (capture the entire tape in one go, or in pieces or do a rough cut with scene detection). Avoid capturing in low definition, because today hard drives are large enough that you don’t need to redo the work and recapture in full definition
- 5. Finally, you can start editing on the computer. Open the editing interface, move the captured sequences from the chute or hard drive to the source window or directly to the timeline and then edit them at will (non-linear) according to your imagination and project. In the end, you can create a DV master of your edit by sending your copy back to a DV cassette on the camcorder, via the same DV connector used during capture. It’s only after taking the precaution of preserving the edit that I recommend moving on to authoring, a prerequisite to burning the video onto a DVD to allow playback on a home DVD player
Isn’t that nice, you have all the answers and it works, I’ve been there, good luck
Ps if you need to modify the encoding of .wmv it’s easy you download Free Video Converter and there you transform into whatever you want to burn a CD or DVD it’s easier just pay attention to the image format for me 16/9 it’s 1280 X 720 in 16/9 it’s easy and relatively fast and it makes good work
BYE

I have the same problem: I want to edit a video and it shows the same message as the first two, and I’ve already tried simply using a player that doesn’t use a codec, with no results!
