Windows installation using Winsetup from USB

Hello,

I followed the tutorial on the Win setup From USB 0.2.3 program,

I installed it (without selecting the "Boot as HDD (2PTNS)" option)

Then I tested the USB on 4 PCs, 1 laptop and 3 desktops. It works perfectly on the laptop, but on the desktops, at the moment of switching from loading to selection (F8 to continue, HDD options, when it loads with a blinking white line on the black screen), I get a nice blue screen, exactly the same on all 3 different PCs. However, it works on the laptops.

I thought it might be due to the option I didn’t check, "Boot as HDD", so I checked it, but when I tried to install XP on the USB key, Win setup from USB told me this:

Grubinst.exe could not make a backup of MBR!
Exiting in 10 seconds.

My USB key is 16GB, and I followed the procedure exactly.

So with the Boot as HDD option, I can't install XP on the USB, if I uncheck the option, it works but I can only install XP on laptops, otherwise I get a blue screen on desktops.

I tested with Seven, and even without the option checked, the installation works on both desktops and laptops.

What is the reason for this bug?

Thank you in advance for your responses.

A bit late for you, gentlemen... But I'm posting the answer anyway:
It's simply that your USB key is too large (no more than 4GB for Windows XP).
The manipulation to do when preparing your USB key is to create a partition of 1024MB (tested with my setup)
So in: "RMPrepUSB", type "1024" (and only 1024) in the "size (MB)" field.

Hello,
I tested it with Seven, and even without the option checked, the installation works on both desktop and laptop.
Windows 7 is much easier to install than Windows XP.

My USB key is 16GB, and I followed the procedure exactly.
As indicated in the tutorial, this software works with a USB key of 1 or 2 GB.
Otherwise, you can try version 0.2.2, or other installation software from a USB drive.

I encountered the same problem, format the key in NTFS.

I had a problem with grubinst.exe because my PC had Winsetup installed by default on the USB drive (yes, I know it's silly, but it was frustrating me) and so when I formatted the drive, it deleted Winsetup.
