Hello,
I accidentally cut the power while my laptop was shutting down Windows 2000.
Since then, I only get the error message:
0x0000007B (0xFD8668D0, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE
I have tried booting by pressing F8, which gives me access to the following menu:
- Safe Mode
- Safe Mode with Networking
- Safe Mode with Command Prompt
- Enable Boot Logging
- Enable VGA Mode
- Last Known Good Configuration
- Directory Services Restore Mode (W2000 domain controllers only)
- Debugging Mode
- Boot Normally
No matter which option I choose, Windows 2000 starts loading from the hard drive, the fan kicks in, and 2 seconds later the above error message appears.
I'm completely stuck.
From what I've read in other posts regarding 0x0000007B, it may be that the disk controller is misconfigured due to the power cut. But if that's the case, how can I restore the correct configuration?
Thank you to anyone who can help me.

hi,
if it's possible for you since given your setup... without an XP CD? ...
- Boot from the Windows XP CD to launch the recovery console (press "R")
- Type the command: chkdsk /r
- Type the command: fixboot
- Restart the PC

Hello,
The reason I’m contacting you is that I read your post regarding the following error message:
"STOP: 0x0000007B (0x8176b7F0, 0xC0000032, 0x0000000, 0x00000000) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE"
Unfortunately, I cannot insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM to run "CHKDSK/F" as you recommended, because it is a recovery computer without an installation CD-ROM.
Is there any other way to recover it?
Do I absolutely need to insert a Windows 2000 CD-ROM to solve my issue?
If I manage to find a colleague who uses Windows 2000, could I use their installation CD-ROM?
If you have a few minutes to spare for me, that would be really nice of you.

Thank you, thank you, this message has been invaluable to me. Repeated power cut 4 times and black screen, and I followed your instructions to the letter: using the XP restore CD then repair, then chkdsk /r, enter and wait (long, very long, 40 minutes), then exit and enter, and there, it restarts, taking care to remove the restore CD, and phew, everything is there! I'm taking the opportunity to burn an image CD of my files right away! Thanks again.

Good evening Druid, good evening everyone,
My IBM ThinkPad 2662 has no floppy disk drive or CD drive...
It is in Inaccessible boot device mode...
Do you have a solution?
I have already tried: disconnecting and reconnecting the RAM, safe mode prompt doesn't launch, and other things
boot device list: + removable devices (does this consider USB ports?)
+ Hard drive CDROM drive (I don't have one...) Network boot and IBA 4.022 slot 0240, the last one is probably my PCMCIA port... right?
Anyway, if you could ever save it.
Thanks in advance
