Hello
yesterday my PC froze, it got stuck, impossible to do anything.
I restarted it by pressing the power button and upon rebooting I received an error message "press a key to reboot"
when I press "enter" it adds DISK BOOT FAILURE..INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
I put in the Windows CD and restarted and selected R for repair but it doesn't work, I tried fixboot but nothing happens
I would like to avoid formatting because I have important photos on it.
Is there a way to restart it correctly? I would be grateful to you

Hi

You should check in the BIOS to see if it is properly configured to boot from the hard drive. And... a million-dollar question, did you happen to leave a floppy disk in the drive?

I checked in the BIOS, it starts first from the floppy disk, then from the CD, and finally from the hard drive. I set the hard drive as the first option, that's not the message, but the screen is static with a blinking cursor.
And you lost 100 bucks, I didn't put in a floppy disk.

I had the same problem after ghosting partition to partition. I should specify that this is under Windows XP Home, but the procedure is valid for almost all Microsoft OSs.

For XP, you need to boot from the CD and as soon as you have the choice, press R to repair. Then it asks you to choose the partition: type 1 then "enter" and finally the administrator password. Generally, no one fills it in for this version of XP, so just press "enter".
And finally, the command that does the trick: fixmbr
without parameters, this command takes the first disk in the IDE chain. Confirm the change by o then type exit and "enter" to reboot the PC.

For Win9x OSs, you need to boot from a DOS boot disk (possibly from the CD) and type fdisk /MBR

But in your case, the fact that you had disk boot failure suggests that the disk is starting to fail. As mentioned, this is just a supposition.

at startup I have
error loading operating system.
when you don't know, don't blow!
even if you think you're helping! in computing it doesn't forgive!
I previously had the same problem, namely,
ERROR 1 PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM FLOPPY
it's clear, now I no longer have this error message.
now I have a horror message...
well, I just have to format and my photos on the disk are lost.
I'm posting this message for others who might have the bad idea of doing a fixmbr !!!!

Hi,
before formatting, if you have a second PC or a friendly buddy who can help you, install your hard drive on another machine (jumper set to "slave") and try to access it. Maybe you’ll be able to recover something.
If the drive stays silent, it’s probably toast.
At that point, you can try formatting/reinstalling to validate this hypothesis.
