Hello,
I recently purchased a D-Link 3200AP WiFi access point to improve the range of my WiFi, but I have a big installation problem.
I have a Livebox Pro upstairs and I would like to install my access point on the lower floor, but the problem is that I don't know if I should install the supplied connectivity, namely an Ethernet cable and a PoE adapter (data in, data out), or just plug the access point into the power outlet.
Indeed, the manual in English suggests connecting the PoE adapter via Ethernet with one end to the access point and the other to the router. I don't quite understand.
Thank you in advance for your replies.
Sincerely,
Configuration: Windows Vista / Firefox 3.6.13

Hello,
If I refer to an equivalent D-Link device, you need to connect it once to the box using the provided Ethernet cable so that the device retrieves the connection parameters, then you can unplug the Ethernet cable and place the device, like a transistor, in a location where it can operate while receiving the best signal from the floor, avoiding closets or metal awnings as well as the proximity of microwave ovens or TV sets.
If I'm not mistaken, the PoE adapter is used on professional switches or hubs that transmit power through the Ethernet cable, for placement in an attic, for example.
Sincerely

Sure, I managed to connect to my access point by setting the same SSID as my livebox, and beforehand I had to set a static IP to access the settings of my access point (192.168.0.50).
Now I can connect just by plugging the access point into a power source without the PoE adapter and the other cables, but the speed is the same as when I was using my livebox some time ago, no improvement.
Did I forget to configure something?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,

Hello,
Unless I misunderstood, your request was about extending the range. You won’t be able to improve the speeds as they depend on the power of your box or Wi-Fi modem. The 3200ap only acts as a repeater. For example, if your box is on Wi-Fi G (54 Mbps), even if the 3200ap is on Wi-Fi N (200 Mbps), it will adjust to the available upstream speed. Therefore, it’s only a geographical extension.
The only way to have a consistent speed throughout the entire area is with Ethernet cabling, possibly with a switch that allows you to connect multiple machines on another floor/location in the house.

So I managed to connect to my terminal without using cables, just the power socket plugged in. I have a very good signal but I can't get an internet connection.
I set the same SSID as the livebox, the same channel, the same WPA key, DHCP disabled on the DLink terminal still and despite that I don't have internet but I am connected to the terminal that's for sure. The Wi-Fi indicator is green but blinking instead of being solid.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

In the network configuration module, you need to enter the primary and secondary DNS zone, which corresponds to your ISP
or those from Orange
193.252.19.3
193.252.19.4
or the Norton DNS
198.153.192.1
198.153.194.1
You also need to make sure that the gateway IP is that of your router
Explanation: it is these DNS (domain name servers) that connect you to the internet.

Okay, I think I understand a bit better. Indeed, since I have to leave the DHCP of my Wii access point disabled via the configuration page (192.168.1.50), I need to set a manual IP address, which I have done, as well as the subnet mask and the gateway.
But for DNS, I haven't put anything at all.
So I just need to enter the IPs you gave me earlier and it will work?
I can't test it right away unfortunately.
