Firmware issue help

Solved

Hi,

I have a problem with my Toshiba SD-R6112 burner that is completely messing up both reading and writing. I've visited a lot of forums, but I haven't understood everything.

Question no1: How can I know the firmware version of my burner (for me: 10.., 17.., or 1M..)? I got Everest, but it didn't give me any information.

Question no2: Let's say I manage to find out what version my firmware is. Apparently, I need to create a bootable disc to update my burner. Does that mean I would have to reset my whole PC? That might sound like a dumb question, but honestly, I don't know anything about it.

Question no3: Could it be the NTI software that's causing the problem? I mean, the updates for it that my burner might not support (which worked perfectly fine a year ago)? I read on Toshiba's site that they recommended using Nero instead, but apparently, other people have the same problem as me even while using Nero.

Thanks, it would be nice if you could help me out
I'm getting fed up with ruining CDs and DVDs.
Configuration: Acer Aspire 1350 Windows XP SP2 Athlon3000 processor 512MB RAM Toshiba SDR6112 DVD burner NTI burning software

You will find the version of your firmware in the system properties (start; program; accessories; system properties)
See photo:

(in my example, the burner is a Samsung (TS means Toshiba/Samsung) and the firmware is version HA05, highlighted in red)

To flash the firmware, there are 2 options, a small executable under Windows or under DOS, from a floppy disk.

Thank you for responding. In the meantime, I managed to get that far; I "flashed" the firmware, as they say, unfortunately it's not working any better than before.

Thanks anyway.
