Absence of network connection icon

Solved

Hello,

I just formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition. I want to connect my computer to my Netgear wireless internet network, which works perfectly on my other PCs, but I can't connect my freshly reinstalled computer.

My problem seems to come from the fact that I don't have the wireless network connection icon in the system tray; I can't find a way to make this icon appear or to configure my computer to connect to the network without using this icon.

It's worth noting that before formatting and reinstalling, my computer was connected to this network and there was no issue.

What should I do? Is it normal not to have this icon?

Thank you in advance for your help,
Cypunk

I can't do it when I go to the control panel -> network and internet
and when I right-click, it only gives me options to open, explore, or create a shortcut. What should I do, please?

Hello

I have the same problem... I followed this link to the letter: https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/7223-configurer-sa-connexion-wifi-avec-windows but when I need to right-click, nothing happens. My (desktop) computer is running Windows XP Professional, and when I right-click, the only options I have are:
-open
-explore
-create a shortcut

I hope for a response

Best regards

I also have a problem; the icon that shows I am connected no longer appears at the bottom of the screen, so I no longer have the connection and I’m looking for how to restore it.

I can't quite manage to do your operation.
Does it work for Windows Vista?
If so, can you give me the exact path again, because I can't find it.
Thank you very much for your help.

Uh...
I don’t think it’s the same under Windows Vista and 7, but... if someone has it, don’t hesitate because I just got Windows 7 ^^

Sorry, it doesn't work on Win Vista and 7, but if anyone knows, just say it because I just got a Win 7 then ^^ ;)

I have internet with the live box on a Mac laptop, and I want to add another computer which is on Windows XP. I also have this problem; I don't have the wireless network connection bar.
In computers, I don't know much, so if someone could explain it to me as simply as possible, I thank you in advance.

Hello Fred, do you have a Wi-Fi key on your Win XP PC that is compatible with your Livebox? If so, normally go to:

start menu, then control panel, then network connections, and inside there you have options and normally (again here ^^) you have wireless network setup wizard and this thing isn’t the most efficient solution I think but by far the easiest one ^^

Hello, I have a desktop Mac that has been formatted and the wireless connection tab is missing even though I've checked around a bit, I verified that everything was okay, but nothing, it's completely empty apart from "local connection unplugged" which is useless to me.
I have a Livebox that's connected to a laptop and my desktop is 20 meters away separated by a wall that doesn't interfere with reception, I installed my Wi-Fi dongle and have a SP3 pack. Thanks in advance for your help because I'm really fed up :'(.

It's okay, I found the problem, just the installation of my wireless antenna that didn't work properly. Sorry for this unnecessary post.

Thanks in advance,

I had the same problem. It was due to the Wi-Fi card driver. I found the driver online, reinstalled it, and the icon reappeared immediately (and the connection too!)
Good luck
