Hello, I don't know if you still check your post but I have the solution for you. The problem you're facing comes from the fact that your CDs are copy-protected, which makes them unreadable on your computer but not on your hi-fi system. The best solution, like I did, is to find an old CD/DVD burner (mine is from an HP Pavilion dv5000 that’s nearly 10 years old) and place it in an external enclosure that you can connect via USB to your computer.
Old CD/DVD burners do not detect the protection and bypass it.
So if you have any more questions, I'm at your disposal.

Thank you, it works very well on an older computer and it's impossible to read on 2 new laptops.
Same problem with the CDs I just bought (for your information, they are reissues of old stuff).
There's got to be a solution, right?

I have the same issue, yet these are not recent CDs. I used my desktop's drive and an external LG drive, and with the latter, it hardly reads anything, except for a sound every 30-40 seconds...
Is it a driver problem or an issue with Windows Seven?
I updated my codecs with K-lite but nothing has changed...
Does anyone have a solution to my problem or could help me?
Thank you.

Hello, I found the solution, it's simply as mentioned above, your CDs are protected, whether they are CDs from the 70s or not, it doesn't change anything, it’s the year they were first released that matters. Yours are CDs pressed in the 90s or 2000s, or even later, and they are protected. Try inserting them into a player that dates back to before 2000 and you'll see it will work.

Good evening,
I'm experiencing the same thing: since I changed my computer (to Windows 7), some CDs "crackle." The sound crackles even after encoding to MP3. The sound from these same CDs is very good on the hi-fi system. It seems that this is due to the CD protection (according to what I've found while searching online).
If anyone has a solution to extract the tracks while eliminating these crackles... Thank you in advance!

Hello, I have exactly the same issue as you, I have a Dell Inspiron laptop running Win 7 and out of about 50 new CDs, 2 crackle as if the sound is distorted, I had created a topic like yours but nobody replied to me, I hope someone can help us...
Best regards,

Hello!
I'm experiencing the same issue as you, so it seems to be real, and yet I haven't found any satisfactory answers so far...
The sound crackles during playback and even after extracting from some brand new audio CDs whose content isn't recent (for your info, a best of The Doors and a CD by Neil Young), while playback has no issues on my hi-fi system.
I have a Dell laptop running Windows 7, but I found the same problem when playing them on a PC running XP.
I don't think the CDs are protected; I haven't found any message indicating so on the CD...
I'm bumping the topic in hopes that someone can help us...
