Akai MPK Mini Help!!!!

Question

Hello,

I just bought the Akai MPK Mini keyboard.
I plan to use it with Reason 4.0; I plug it in, connect the keyboard with Reason, everything works perfectly except I can’t get any sound out of the pads... The beat sounds only come out from the keyboard. I tried to look in the MPK editor, but being a newbie with MIDI controls, I don't understand anything... (CC; PC; Note)
I searched everywhere, even on foreign sites, and I haven't found any patches or help videos... The keyboard might be too new...
So if someone has had the same problem as me and solved it, or if someone knowledgeable in MIDI or MPC could help me, that would be really nice because I’m losing hope here...
The Christmas beat is not gonna be ready anytime soon :(

A little late, but it might be useful.
The MPK Mini software is used to program it, meaning defining which key will play which note, what value to assign to a knob, etc.
In order:
Connect the MPK Mini
Launch the software, select MPK Mini for the MIDI port
If you only have MPK Mini Editor as an option, it means the keyboard is not detected (most likely because it was connected after the software was launched).
For those who don’t have an active cursor, I just figured it out after uploading an empty program to the keyboard... In fact, if you do this, it will no longer respond because it has no values for the knobs (no default values set in the editor, which somewhat resets the keyboard).
So to fix that: 64 in CC / 127 in max and 00 in min (possibly play around with these values, test, have fun :p).
It's a great little MIDI controller :)

I have almost the same problem as you.. except that I'm on Reason 5.
I don't know much about your Reason setup but I remember that with the version I was previously using, it was enough to right-click on a virtual key in the program and then click on something like: assign a key, then check: learn from the control surface, so as soon as you touched a key it would record it.. but at the beginning it didn't recognize my console.. after some tinkering.. I couldn't find my MINI console in the program's list of consoles, so I selected: other MIDI multichannel keyboard and checked use with Reason.. it works more or less... it works halfway, I'm still tinkering and every time it moves a little forward. For now I am still on the MINI's drum pads, it registers almost all the keys except 4..

So if this could help you, I can keep you updated on my progress.. Otherwise, if there is someone else who can help us, it would be appreciated.. :)

if it can help you, I had the same issue… but… I first assigned a control surface by selecting "others", and just like you, cyber_killer911, it doesn’t recognize everything but… it’s simple…
you go for example to Malstrom, right-click on a knob (for example) and then do "edit substitution assignments"… then a window opens, you select <other> Midi controller Keyboard, and below at controller, you go to pitch bend wheel, then you turn one of your knobs and it learns… or you open the same window, you still select <other> Midi controller Keyboard, then you turn or press a key (not assigned otherwise it will tell you…) and it reacts (normally…) the awesome thing is that you can teach it everything, and assign whatever you want, and even play around with the keyboard and assign more…

Thank you for your concern :P but on the reason I'm on, you can't assign a damn @%?@$%&%@ key to the drum pads (kong kit) so I always tinker and regularly look online.

Denils, what do you mean by selecting a channel?

It is necessary to assign an effect to each knob and a sound or sample to the pads (preferably - control surface - MPK Mini (or other)).

Hello, I use my Akai Mini on Live 8, and everything works very well. But I would like to know what the software that had to be installed beforehand is for, aside from making the controller work? Does it allow you to configure the controller or something like that? And above all, I would like to know if it’s possible to write the tempo of a sequence from the arpeggiator, without necessarily having to tap it in rhythm? Can we synchronize the BPM of the Akai with that of Live??? This is probably a silly question, but there isn’t much information provided in the manual!

Hello everyone, I have the same problem but on Ableton Live 8. It's not possible to use the pads or the knobs, even when trying to assign MIDI mapping. Is my program set up correctly? I don't know who could help me.

Hello everyone, to assign the pads in Reason with an MPK Mini, you just need to hold down the PROG CHANGE button on the synthesizer while simultaneously pressing the PROG 1 button and PAD BANK 2; the 8 pads will work.
