Hello,  my HP printer shows ready but inactive. How can I activate it?  Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0

What is the model, what is the connectivity?
Does the driver come from the CD or the HP website?

Software is like sex, it's better when it's free... ;-)
As for me, I'm a PC, Windows 7 wasn't my idea and I don't need it!

I just solved a big problem I had with my HP 1610.
It was disconnecting when I sent a print job. For no reason. And it claimed my cartridges were empty even though they were perfectly full (planned obsolescence?).

So try a hard reset:

- Unplug the printer.
- Press and hold the "cancel" button and the "OK" button
- Plug the printer back in while holding these two buttons until "initializing" appears on the screen.
