Charging a laptop without a charger? Solved

Hello,

I'm reaching out to you today because the charging port on my laptop has broken (the small pin in the middle of the port has disappeared). Just for your information, my laptop is an Asus.
I would like to know if there is a way to charge a laptop without a charger, at least without using this port..? (So that I can at least recover some important data...).

Otherwise, do you have an idea of the repair cost, or a place to go (near Bordeaux if possible)? A big store told me around 300 euros, which I think is a bit too expensive for such a small part...

Hi  what I can do for you is encourage you to open your PC and change the part yourself, it's not that complicated. I've changed it plenty of times for people I know.

Where do you find the parts? And don’t you know a site or something where they explain the process a bit? So I don't mess it up...

Hi  A big store told me around 300 euros <= and wouldn't you go see a specialist in a small shop?  A big store sends phones to the brand's after-sales service, so it costs very expensive.  To see: computer store Bordeaux -- Before asking a question: 1° Turn on your brain; your PC doesn't think for you! 2° Google is your friend, the search engine of CCM too, do a search!

I was mainly asking for an address that only a few people know, a good tip.
But thanks for the link, I’ll check it out. I work a lot and only get home around 9 PM, so I don't have time to wander around looking for an affordable store. And internet at work is only during my break, hence the choice to go directly to the forum to ask a question (in relation to your comment received by email).

EDIT : If the problem comes from the charger, it is possible to buy a replacement charger, such as a universal charger, by ensuring that the voltage (identical), amperage (at least equivalent or higher), and polarity are respected. If the problem is with the connector, it is usually possible to change it by consulting a professional or doing it yourself if you have some soldering knowledge and are careful not to take risks.

Well, I gave up on the repairs (I'm actually writing to you from my new laptop..!), it was really too expensive, considering the age of my laptop... And as for recovering my data, I'm going to buy a cable that will allow me to connect my hard drive to another PC so I can transfer them. From what I've understood, it's not that complicated, but it's better if the PC receiving your data has two hard drives to start with, or is partitioned (uh, I think that's what it's called...), so that the person who kindly lends you their PC doesn't lose all their installations, etc. From what I've understood!
And when it comes to repairs, I searched a lot and the cheapest quote I found was 100 euros minimum (estimate, labor, parts...).

Hello,
I recommend anyone wanting to repair the charging connector "the connector that connects the power supply to the laptop" to check out Univers-Tek located in the city center of Bordeaux near the Capucins market, about 5 minutes from the Victoire. The price is very affordable (under 100 euros to my knowledge). They also sell cheap laptop chargers (for both PCs and Macs). I've already bought several chargers from them and honestly, I've never been disappointed.
