Hello,
Recently, my PS2 has been lagging a lot and is not reading some discs (even a few discs that worked perfectly before), and after some lengthy searches (well... not that long :p) I discovered that the problem comes from the lens, so I decided to clean it. I found out that cotton swabs can be used, but my question is: should these cotton swabs be used with water or alcohol? I was told that alcohol is better (90 alcohol if I remember correctly...), but if I use water, will it affect the console?
Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.5.9

hello
use 90° alcohol or denatured alcohol that dries quickly. Don't push too hard on the lens, you risk misaligning it.
Water alone is not effective.

Hello,
Ah, you MUST NOT CLEAN WITH WATER. Alcohol is the only product that can clean the lens. But it's a bit more complicated than that. It's not enough to do it with a cotton swab. First, you need a product with between 90% and 95% alcohol at normal temperature (neither heated nor cooled): You can use colorless disinfectants like "Septéal" (Ask your mom, she probably has some). No more, no less. And then to CLEAN PROPERLY (otherwise you'll permanently damage your PS2), you need to first make sure that the problem doesn't come from the lens adjustment (tight or not).
There you go!
P.S: You can try using vinegar BUT you must not let it dry on the lens.
