Good evening everyone,
First of all, the external hard drive in question is a Storex Storydisk Lite 1TB HDMI:

The problem itself escapes me; indeed, when I connect my hard drive via USB 2.0 and turn it on, it is recognized and appears in the workstation after a short delay.
So far, everything is normal, but then after a few minutes, or even seconds (!), it disappears and I can no longer use it until I turn it off and on again.
The most annoying thing is that this hard drive is the destination for the files I download, so I can't leave the downloads, which are sometimes significant.
Thank you for your attention.
P.S.: I would also like to know how to bypass the 4.0GB limit of FAT32 since I have larger files to export and I am afraid of losing the multimedia functions by formatting it to NTFS.
Thanks again!
Configuration: Windows Vista / Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello,
I have already encountered the issue you mentioned, it was because the USB ports were going into sleep mode. You need to uncheck that in the device manager settings.
Otherwise, there is no way to properly bypass the 4GB limit. However, you can split your large files into several parts of a maximum of 4GB using WinRAR, for example.

Problem solved: DD returned to Auchan's customer service and refunded immediately.

I'm sorry to insist, but I don't see what to disable in the device manager.
I see the section "USB Bus Controllers," so I go in there; from there, there are "Root USB Hubs." I check there, and in the properties, there's "Power Management," a tab where we can check or uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
However, that box is not checked!
I still don't understand!

So the problem doesn't come from there :X it still turns off after a fixed or random time, like sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 20 seconds.
It doesn't actually turn off since the hard drive access light is still on or blinking.
But yes, it disappears randomly, sometimes it's when I browse for 20 seconds in the folders and then go back to the workstation.
It's new (bought a week ago!) and maybe the drivers are not up to date, I will check out Storex.com.
