Hello,
I am about to throw away my old computer that ran on Windows 98. It had the merit of having a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive, on which I have stored archives that are important to me. My current computer runs on XP SP2. Can I transfer the content of the floppy disks I care about onto one or more USB flash drives and then use these drives to save them onto my current computer? If so, how should I proceed? I am a novice in computers.
Best regards, thank you to anyone who can help.

Hello,

You plug your USB stick into your old PC (does it have a USB port?) and then you insert your first floppy disk. Open Windows Explorer: right-click on the floppy disk and select "copy." Activate the USB stick in Windows Explorer and paste. You might want to create a "floppies" directory on the USB stick beforehand, along with subdirectories for the contents of each floppy disk.

On some hardware, you can install your old floppy disk drive, but you'll need a slot, and not all recent motherboards have this connection.

The other solution would be to network the two PCs and transfer directly from the floppy disks to the new PC.

You can also copy all your floppy disks into a directory on the hard drive of your old PC (if you have space) and then do a copy-paste to the USB stick.

See you later
