Hello, I would like to know how to download the old version of Windows Movie Maker, the one that was on Windows XP. I have a different version on my new computer with Windows 7, Live Movie Maker. I find it much less comprehensive and noticeably harder to use, and I would really like to get my old program back. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance. Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0

In the title, it seems to be a more recent version, but that's a mistake. It is indeed the XP version; I downloaded it myself because Movie Maker is not installed with Windows 7. The integration into the Windows Live suite is indeed a very bad idea; to install the latest version, we are now obliged to install crap on the computer...

I was in the process of asking the question on Google when I came across this forum. Like quite a few other people, I find that Windows Live Movie no longer has some advantages that were present in Windows Movie, although there are others. Thanks for this link!

Hello,
Live Movie Maker has its pros and cons compared to Movie Maker.
Despite their differences, the ease of use is very simple in both versions. See: Live Movie Maker
The best option is to have with Seven, Live Movie Maker and Movie Maker 2.6: download
Note that Live Movie Maker can open a project created with Movie Maker, but the reverse is not possible (an older version cannot open a project from a newer version).

It's total crap! (the dish, I mean)
What a regression! It looks like nothing, especially not like video editing software!
It takes me 2 hours to do what I used to do in 30 minutes with Movie Maker.

Completely agree with the bio, now you can easily find the xp version by searching on Google, I am looking for version vista 6.0 because this version took the free rehan effects in addition, the 2.6 (xp) does not take them :/

Windows Movie Maker 2.0 (the old one) A video editor, simple but effective, made by Microsoft, and best of all, it's free and in French, and it's the best (this software is designed for Windows XP).

Hello,
I just saw that you posted a link to install the old version of Movie Maker (on XP), I tried to download it but I can't open the link or use it. Right now, I don't know what to do. However, a panel popped up saying "installed successfully".... Either I'm not skilled, or it's not compatible with my PC, but I also have Windows 7.

When I bought my laptop in 2009, I had a version of Windows Live Movie Maker with which I edited a video recently. Unfortunately, it kept crashing; it only read the title of the video. On the forums, it was advised to uninstall and install a new version. So I did. But now it no longer accepts my project file?
What should I do; how can I get out of this without losing around fifty hours of work? Help Please. Thank you in advance.

Windows Live Movie Maker is really a piece of garbage. There's no way to do anything: crashes, crashes, and more crashes. I'm glad I found links for the old version.

I installed and am using version 2.6, but I would also like to install Movie Maker 2012 and the Photo Gallery. I am on Windows 7. Do you know if version 2.6 will be automatically replaced (and thus lost) if I install 2012 and/or the Gallery? How can I keep both versions on the same PC? Thank you!

The two software can coexist on the same computer.

On Windows 7, Windows Live Movie Maker (Movie Maker 2011) is already installed by default, in principle. By updating it, you get Windows Movie Maker 2012.
Its installation name is "MovieMaker.exe"
On my computer, it is located under C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery

The installation of Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is done in another location if I remember correctly. You might have to create the installation directory name yourself in order to differentiate them, but I'm not sure..The installation name is "MOVIEMK.exe". On my computer, it is located under C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker 2.6

Personally, I have both on my Windows 7 computer and it works relatively well ;)
