Small caps accents - Word 2003

Solved

Hello,

I have a small consistency issue with Word 2003. I’m currently using small caps (in Times New Roman) in various documents, and I notice that sometimes they have accents and sometimes they don’t. I can’t find the setting that causes this variation. In one document, the small caps have accents, while in another, they cannot be displayed. Is there a checkbox somewhere?

Thank you for your help.

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0

Just select "Uppercase accented in French" in the Options ...

Hello

Of course, Raymond! :-)
And in 2003, the option is in the Edit tab

Thank you!
For Word 2007 do:
Office button ==> Word Options ==> Proofing ==> Uppercase with accents in French.

Hi,

as I was often asked, I just made a video to explain how to type uppercase letters with accents, I hope it will help you

here is the link to the video I uploaded on YouTube:

Hi Telliak
Indeed, especially when we see the nonsense that has been said in this topic! Choosing the English language to display accents on capital letters! Or even Canadian French... It's complete nonsense...

For the accents to appear, the only correct answer is that of Raymond, supplemented by Argitxu, and of course, the accents need to be included.

Then, regarding spell check, you need to uncheck the "Ignore words in uppercase" option in the grammar and spell check settings for Word to recognize a capitalized word spelled without an accent as a mistake.
So the sentence "Because Word mistakenly believes that capital letters do not take accents in French" is worthless and irrelevant.

Let’s remind one more time that in French "the accent has full orthographic value"... It's not me who says it, but the Académie Française.

There you go, everything else is just makeshift!

ps: I haven't watched Cédric's video... I hope it's correct... But well, was it really necessary?

So my problem is the opposite... I don't want accents on uppercase letters. The "accented uppercase letters in French" box is unchecked but... when I switch a text to small caps, they are accented. Can we fix this?
Thank you

No. That is precisely the essential difference between Uppercase and Small Caps.

No need to put the word in English, rather select your text and choose French Canada if it is available in the language choice list.

Accents will appear for uppercase and small caps.

This way, your spell checker remains effective.

I understood the logic of Word 2003 regarding small capitals: it does not display accents when the word in question is in the format "Language: French."

Because Word mistakenly believes that capital letters do not take accents in French.

If you want to display the accents of small capitals, the only way (?) is therefore to do: right-click on the word in question > Language... > English.

If "Language..." does not appear, select the word > open the "Tools" menu > Language tab > click on Language... and choose English.

Problem solved.

Kiki, you should look for a correct answer elsewhere, as the one from Tracks is full of nonsense.
