Selection problem in OpenOffice

Hello,

I have a problem with OpenOffice. I can't select phrases or even words anymore. Whenever I try, it selects only one letter at a time. Moreover, when I edit text, as I type it erases the text that follows. How can I fix this, please?

    Hello
    Regarding the replacement or insertion when you modify a text in Writer, check that in the status bar there is "INS" instead of "RFP"

    Regarding the selection, I’m not sure. But for question 2, just press the Insert key on the keyboard.
