Good evening,
You need to switch back to normal mode. The selection is appearing now.
CTRL+C - CTRL+N (which will take exactly the dimensions of your selection) CTRL+V. That’s it.

Good evening,
Of course, this method only works with GIMP; I don't know how to do it with Photoshop either. I tried, but since I have an old version of Elements, there is little chance that I can manage it...

Pouillou, I can't understand why you can't do a simple crop. Before using the tool, press Ctrl-d to deselect everything, or use the Select-Deselect option. Then take your cropping tool, define your selection, place your mouse over the selected area, right-click and crop, and that's it. I really don't see where your problem lies. I wish I could help you more, but I don't know how to do better. Good luck, I'm off to eat. Pierro
Well, to save it, file-save as, you name it, choose your format, your settings, and save, like for most editing software.
After trying it, Sarahmoon's method works like a charm, even on my antique...

Hello
As mentioned, simply click on mask mode to switch back to normal mode, and your selection will display
then ctrl + c, then ctrl + v
and your selection will paste onto a new layer
afterward, you delete your old layer and only your selection remains
or ctrl + c, then ctrl + n, and in the preset options, you choose clipboard, then finally ctrl + v
if you want to keep your transparency, file save for web and devices, and choose gif or png

no, it doesn't work, I set it to mask mode, what I want to use (what is selected) is clear, the rest is red, but I can't retrieve what is selected!
re,
no matter the program, if you select and copy, what is in the clipboard is only the selection, open the clipboard to make sure of this, and then if you paste you will only paste that, unless of course you are not using the right tool

In Photoshop, you make your selection with the cropping tool, normally the 4th one down from the top of your tools palette. You can adjust your selection quite finely, then right-click, choose crop, and that's all set.
Thank you for your patience, but it doesn't work. I used the cropping tool to do it, and also "copy"
but how do we "open the clipboard"?
I can't recover this selection!

We don't open it; to put it simply, it's where information is stored when you do, for example, a copy/paste. The copied information is kept until you use it to paste, even if you paste two or three times in a row...

Isn't it working with the cropping tool? The action you're describing in your first post is a piece of cake with this tool, I don't see what the problem is? Which version do you have?
re,
are you sure you don't have the option to open the clipboard?
look closely ... it seems that under XP it's possible, since I only use it at work I might be mistaken.
see you later

1. Mask mode: http://ioj.com/v/gnu7m
2. Switch back to normal mode: http://ioj.com/v/hxmex
The selection appears
3. Press CTRL+C, then CTRL+N, then CTRL+V and you get this: http://ioj.com/v/9k5d5

Good evening to you
With PS7 the "cropping" method works perfectly
In the following link I have the original photo and next to it the image obtained by cropping
https://www.cjoint.com/?chtUuIpAlV
To open the clipboard in XP
>Start>Run. Type clipbrd then click OK
NB. The XP clipboard does not contain all the "COPY"
The last one replaces the previous one. If you want to keep all copies the Dito software does it very well
Have a good evening everyone

Sacred Jeanbi, you want to have the last word by going elsewhere, but the argument doesn't hold and we're straying from the subject: have you often seen guys open the clipboard while they're working with a software? We just let it do its job and that's enough, not to mention that there are always risks in fiddling with things where you shouldn't or more precisely where there is more risk than benefit, of course, you have to know the commands... xDDD
