Hello,
I’m trying to install and get my scanner, a HP Scanjet 5470c, recognized under Windows 7.
As for the software, after some research and tinkering, there are no more issues.
However, the driver is a different story.
Windows 7 can identify what type of scanner is connected via USB, but it also tells me that the driver is not found, and when I try to update the driver using the Windows assistants, nothing happens (nothing regarding the driver).
Unfortunately, there’s nothing on the HP website.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance!

Same problem for me! The solution on my side was to install Mandriva with VirtualBox and it works very well!!! You just need to copy the scanned files onto a USB stick plugged into the PC so that they are directly accessible under Win7.

I think that installing another 32-bit Windows OS in virtual mode should work as well, but I haven't tested it.
@best regards. -
I forgot to mention that it was a 64-bit version of Windows 7.

As far as I'm concerned, I have an HP OfficeJet 6210.
In terms of printing, no problem; my PC running Windows 7-64 bits handled everything automatically, so I can print and it works.
However, I can't get my scanner and fax to work, except manually and independently from the PC, which isn't very useful. As for the photo editing software (Image Zone) which was well designed, practical, and efficient, it cannot be installed.
I am also looking for solutions, and what I regret the most is not having a response from HP Support... They are champions when it comes to selling, but when it comes to telling us about their software under Windows 7-64 bits, it's a whole different story.

No one has another idea/solution for the pilot?
Thank you. -
Zoef,
You can also go here: http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-11289105-pb-script-hp-scanjet-4400c# . . I have outlined my system there.
I used the PrecisionScan Pro software/driver for the 5470c model, so it should work for you as well. The scanner only works with WIA software, in BMP, GIF, and TIF format, and you won't be able to scan slides or negatives.
If you understand English, you can find other tips in the HP forum indicated in the link above, but it doesn't necessarily work for everyone.
I tried everything, and ultimately only my system works on my PC (W 7 32 bits). Note that I have installed W XP on my second hard drive for all the things that do not work (yet) on W 7; it works perfectly but it's tedious because you have to exit W 7 and reboot to the second drive.
Good luck! -
If you have the Win XP CD-ROM, the easiest way is to install Win XP virtually using, for example, VMware Player: https://www.vmware.com/products/workstation-player.html
It's a breeze with this program and it works perfectly. -

Yours isn't on the list, so try the ones for Vista; otherwise, well, your scanner isn't compatible with Windows 7. -
I couldn't find the Vista driver either, which is why I'm asking if anyone has a solution...
-
None released for Vista, so I have even more doubts for Seven.
Download the one for XP.
Right-click on the installation file, properties.
Check run in compatibility for.
Choose the last XP in the line (SP3 if available).
Apply, ok.
Start the application.
If it doesn't work, then you won't be able to use it on Seven. -
The software works well. It's the scanner-computer connection that's not working because there's no driver..
Otherwise, your thing works well, I had already applied it ;-) -
I just got a new laptop and I have exactly the same problem: no way to use my HP ScanJet 5470c scanner, it is not accessible with Windows 7 (64 bits).
The search for driver updates on the HP website for this type of hardware has been unsuccessful. I tried
with drivers for other OS (XP and Vista) but it doesn't work. Apparently, drivers for this hardware do not exist yet for Windows 7.
After a search on the site http:// support.microsoft.com, the message I received left me unsatisfied; that is to say, my scanner that worked perfectly under Windows XP (32 bits) is not compatible to work under Windows 7 (64 bits).
I conclude that as of now there are only 2 solutions to resolve this issue. Either buy a new scanner or wait for HP to get its services up and running to deliver online new drivers compatible with Windows 7 for this type of scanner, unless there is another solution that I am not aware of.
One surprising thing is that I had no difficulty installing and using an old HP 960c printer with my new laptop. It was recognized immediately by Windows 7 after automatic search for the correct driver. Perhaps it's because this type of hardware is simpler than a scanner.
If anyone has a tip to make my scanner work, I thank you in advance, as once again I realize that hardware suppliers are lagging behind in updating their products compared to software suppliers, and it’s always the poor consumer who pays the price. -
Personally, I stopped looking and replaced the equipment. Having not found the scanner drivers for Windows Vista on the HP site, I concluded that Windows 7 would not have its drivers either :s
-
Don't get your hopes up.
The design of this equipment is over 10 years old.
HP didn't find it useful to offer a Vista driver. They're not going to bother releasing one for Windows 7!

To err is human, to persist is diabolical. -
I have the solution to get the scanner working with the Windows software (WIA).
In any case, it worked for me.

Hi Zoef,
Sorry for arriving so late, I just got back from vacation. Please let me know if you're still around.

Same problem. Solution: a laptop running XP. Files transferred via a USB flash drive. The new HP scanners do not allow for scanning three-dimensional objects. While it works perfectly with the 5470c.
I'm considering testing the Epson Perfection V370...
