Hello,
How can we disable and reactivate the WEP key at any time?
And what are the risks if we disable the WEP key?
Please reply quickly, thanks.

    Hi,

If you disable the WEP key, you allow anyone to connect to your network, including your PC(s). They can also connect to the internet using your connection and do illegal things. So it's not really recommended!

If you still wish to do it, you need to adjust the settings on your WiFi router.

You need to enter your router's IP address in an internet browser and then log in. You should then probably find.

    Hello
you enter the main menu of your wifi router and there you will surely see in the tabs where to go to disable the key. In the Livebox for example, you type the IP address of the Livebox to enter the main menu and in the wireless network tab at the bottom you have "Wireless network settings" then security and this is where you will need to disable the protection

You click on Wi-Fi, wireless LAN or WLAN and then click on "none" or uncheck the WEP encryption protection. It's also found in the security settings of the router on some. That should be it, more or less.

Yeah, but it says: New route, so I think I need to create one, right? There's a field and it lets me select stuff...

I don't know, it's pretty hard to say. I gave you what should normally be the general security options that should be there, but I can't help you any further. You need to search. I gave you the keywords, try to find a match. I don't use a LiveBox.

First of all, if you have neighbors, do not disable the security.

    - You could face a fine if they do illegal things with your connection.
    - They can take it over, even block your computer if they feel like it...

The problem is not there, you need to know why you can't connect securely.

What are you trying to connect? Your computer? A PC? A Mac?
What is your box? (livebox, neufbox, etc...)

Thank you, I didn't know that, fortunately, you told me ^^
I have a Sagem Livebox and it's to connect to a game on DS Lite via Wi-Fi.

It's good, I explained the risks involved to her, but she seems determined to do it. If it's just for 15 minutes, she's almost not at risk as long as she reactivates it.

So, for the DS, it's a WEP encryption.

And your box is probably in WPA.

So switch to WEP in the livebox settings.

But even if it's just for 15 minutes (which will turn into hours... because we forget to reactivate it, and also it's annoying to do it every time)... if someone sees the open network... it's screwed ^^

The fine is only if there has been illegal activity on your connection (P2P, pedophilia...). If it's just for 15 minutes, it's fine, but after that, if it remains unprotected, that's dangerous.

Okay, thanks, but I'd rather not take any risks...
