Hello,
I’ve been browsing the forum to understand how to transfer a VHS to a DVD using Dazzle.
The responses I found helped me a lot.
However, I still have a problem.
I have a VHS in NTSC format.
My VCR plays this format, but with Dazzle, the image stays black and white.
What "makes me laugh" is that at one point, I paused the VCR and the image was in color for half a second ;-)
I tried changing the format to PAL or PAL-M, I can't remember, it's still black and white.
Can someone tell me if there is a solution?
On the forum, I found someone who had this problem, but I didn't understand the solution...

Yes, you need to set the box to NTSC before starting the video (well, personally I've never used NTSC, only PAL and SECAM).

If your tape is in NTSC, you need to set the Dazzle to NTSC; Pal and SECAM (and their variants) will not work!

I feel like that’s what I’m doing.
In DVD Instant Recorder, I’m offered the video standard option NTSC, which I choose, but it stays in black and white.
Is there a specific order to perform the operations?
Like, should I choose NTSC and then start the VHS?
Thank you for the quick response in any case.

Hello
The question is: "Does this version of the Dazzle box" have the NTSC option?" and it's not certain!
bye -
I have the same Dazzle box and there is indeed NTSC in the capture options!
But then again, I've never had a film in NTSC to try it out, all I can say is that if I set it to NTSC on a PAL or SECAM video, it’s in black and white! -
Have you tried Pal or Secam-L, just in case the scope would read NTSC but output a video in Pal??
I'm starting to be wary of everything! -
Yes, I acknowledge that, but nothing is really certain with these "capture boxes." I did Video Pal (Plextor) transfers and it's heartbreaking; if I had known, I would have had the work done by a lab. I've seen some friends' transfers of 8mm and Super 8 film, and it's not bad. When you do the math of material investment plus time spent, there's no comparison (even in retirement).
Hi-
Well, for me this Dazzle box (cheap) works super well!
It serves as a VCR (connected to a TNT decoder) to record TV and possibly archive some movies on CD after cleaning up the ads!, and also to transfer VHS tapes to CD-ROM
The most important time is the playback time of the tape, but you don't have to watch it, because afterwards unless you dive into cutting and other editing, it goes quickly
And the quality is there, the same as VHS of course, if there are glitches.....they remain

I have the same problem. Playing an NTSC cassette with a VHS player that reads NTSC. The image appears in color on the television. When I try to capture with Dazzle set to NTSC, the image is in black and white. If I set it to PAL, I get no image during capture.
If anyone knows the answer to this problem, please let me know.
Best regards, -
Hello
while re-reading this updated question on the forum, I think I remember, and it’s far back in my memory, that NTSC has variations based on the identification signals of the Chroma, which are different depending on the country where NTSC is used – the USA and Japan at 60Hz, and Brazil for example with a 50Hz version of NTSC that’s revised and corrected. Televisions like Philips can read this "bastard NTSC" via Scart, but the capture device can't!
it’s been more than forty years ago, sorry
see you++ -
