Remove the symbols (play; pause) on VLC

hello,

I would like to remove the "play" and "pause" symbols in the upper right corner when using the keyboard shortcut "space".

I find it quite ugly and I would like it to look cleaner for displaying a video in public.

    the reply may be a bit late but I was looking for it too and I finally found it! If it can help...
    in: tools / preferences / subtitles & OSD: uncheck "enable OSD"
