Hello,
Every time I connect my external hard drive, I get the message saying that this device can work faster, etc., etc...
When I click on this window, another one appears with all the available USB ports on my PC. However, in the header of this window, there is this killer phrase: "There is no high-speed USB host controller installed on this computer"
I have WIN XP Home, I installed the SP2 pack, I configured the BIOS as explained on the Asus website, and still, it doesn't work. I don't know what to do anymore. To transfer a 700 MB file, it takes me 13 minutes.
Thank you in advance for any answers and help you can provide me

I did it, I managed to solve my problem all by myself, like a big kid. Indeed, I went into the device manager and installed my controller.
Hi everyone.-

Hi,
Follow the procedure below:
"start / control panel / System / hardware tab / Device Manager "
Now, you will see a yellow question mark in front of the malfunctioning devices.
Select the USB 2.0 controller, right-click and install the driver.
There you go, it should work. Feel free to reach out to me if it doesn't work.
See you! -

if your PC is equipped with USB1 and you plug in a USB2, it works but it's definitely slower

Hello at your place!
I am not a number, I am a free man!-
Hello
I remind you to read posts <10>, <19>, <35>, <55>, <67> and <86>
What you can also do: copy the "I386" and "inf" directories from the XP CD to the hard drive "C:\\"
For the following files
USBSTOR.INF - Version: 5.1.2600.0
https://www.infdump.com/download-inf-files_new.php/inffiles/U/USBSTOR.INF/5.1.2600.0/download.html
(download this link with Internet Explorer)
http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich 2098576 usbstor inf
to be copied into C:\Windows\inf and "C:\inf"
Microsoft info page = https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/823732/how-can-i-prevent-users-from-connecting-to-a-usb-storage-device
USBSTOR.PNF
http://www.pnfdump.com/download-pnf-files.php/pnffiles/U/usbstor.PNF/download.html
to be copied into C:\windows\system32
USBSTOR.SYS
http://sanderriere.free.fr/upload/USBSTOR.SYS
to be copied into C:\windows\system32\drivers
Then do what is indicated in post <7> if your USB storage hardware did not trigger the "New hardware..." window when plugged in
"Device Manager"
right-click on "My Computer", "Manage" to access "Computer Management"
then "Device Manager"
See you later

Hi lematt90,
try starting in "safe mode" by pressing "F8" at startup (on some motherboards, it might be the "F5" key)
if you have an Asus motherboard, and you see a nice window, it’s right after that, otherwise, you’ll end up in the "Boot menu"
if you manage to download this nice little file that's easy to use, you can check the offered options if this case is included: "zeb restore"

Hello and thank you
I’ve done everything you told me, but relentlessly it keeps asking me for a USB2 for my Dazzle DVD recorder to be recognized, and my question is: is it possible to have a USB2 through software with USB1 ports installed on my 5-year-old PC running Windows XP Home?
Sorry, but it’s really annoying as the documentation avoids this kind of question

-
My motherboard is designed for SATA / RAID / WIFI, etc..
So having functional USB 2.0 would be better. -
Hello!
My problem also comes from the USB port, but it's with my phone's cable (Samsung SGH Z360) that it's 'bugging': basically, I'm being told it could work faster, and when I try to 'update the driver,' I'm told I have the best possible one.
In fact, it shows up in the device manager without a 'yellow question mark' (so apparently no problem), but it doesn't show in the taskbar at the bottom (SO NO SAFETY TO DISCONNECT IT AND THAT'S MY ISSUE) and it doesn't appear in My Computer (removable disk E: doesn't show up...)
I'm afraid I'll damage my equipment by disconnecting the USB plug without safety!!
Anyone to help me, please?
Thanks in advance! -
Hello,
I would like to solve a problem:
When I connect my Wi-Fi modem to a USB port on my computer, I get a Windows message that says, in summary, that my Wi-Fi could work faster if I plug it into a high-speed USB port. The problem is that there is no high-speed USB host controller installed on this computer. I would like to know how to install this.
Here is my configuration: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 -

Hi Tynou
USB updates for XP
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?displaylang=en&freeText=usb
USB2.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=733dd867-56a0-4956-b7fe-e85b688b7f86&DisplayLang=fr
when you plug in your USB2.0 device, you might get the Add New Hardware prompt
then you look for the drivers manually and you go find them on the XP CD, directory I386

Hello!
I bought a USB 2.0 MP3 player and my computer (a laptop with XP that I bought in 2002) doesn't recognize it! (but it works on a friend's computer!)
I can't tell if my "host controller" is USB 1.1 or 2.0
in device manager there is only: "USB bus controller"
I tried downloading the USB updates you provided, I tried updating to SP2, I downloaded an installation software for my drive (Trekstor i.Beat joy 2.0) but none of that works!
I hope I provided all the necessary information...
Thank you for your help!!!

Hello
I checked and my port is USB 1.1, but my USB key works on my friend's computer's USB 1.1 port
and I tried to do the USB updates...
I also tried to install SP2
I also tried another USB key and my computer didn't recognize it!
I'm losing hope!
I'm missing the driver: but I don't know how to reinstall it. I found a file called "USBSTOR" but it's not working...
Thanks again! -

Hi Marie
It's not the SP2 that can provide a solution, but other troubles
I'm thinking more of a driver conflict
You should compare the software and hardware installed with your friend's computer
In your case, for example, a USB modem can cause chaos
If that's the one, uninstall it, clean the registry with a good reg cleaner that can also find unused .dll files
The Neuf Box is known for this, for example
And this conflict doesn’t show up in the dxdiag (Start Menu/Run, type dxdiag and OK, look in the bottom window of the different tabs)

No high-speed USB host controller installed
This is not a high-speed controller, but a USB mass storage device (in Device Manager)
Already two cases reported for blocking USB 2.0
- old version of Kaspersky
- Neuf Box ADSL modem via USB
Uninstall, install the WiFi key, and reinstall

Hello "old bison boiter"!! In fact, since I see that you understand problems, I have one to submit to you because personally I haven't been able to resolve it! I'm on Windows XP Home Edition SP2, I have the Livebox at 8 mega from Inventel, and it's the Wi-Fi that gives me a lot of trouble because it keeps telling me that as soon as I plug it in, it could work faster, etc. But I think I don’t have USB 2.0 ports, at least I don't think so, I'm not sure. So I would like to know how I can "upgrade" my USB ports since it causes me quite a few issues!! Thank you in advance.

Hello
USB fixes
http://msmvps.com/docxp/archive/2005/05/22/48326.aspx
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/doc.jm/b1n/USB_GenericDriverFix.vbs
USB registry = just a reminder:
Know that you can also remove from the registry the history of devices already connected to the USB port. (Unknown devices included).
Launch the registry editor: Start/Run menu
type "regedit" and press Enter
Go to the directory: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
"SYSTEM"
"CurrentControlSet"
"ENUM"
right-click on the "ENUM" directory and choose "Permissions…"
Select "Everyone" as the username or group
Select "Full Control" and "Allow" in Permissions for Everyone
Click "OK"
Go to the "USB" directory
And delete all directories "Vid_xxxxxxxx_xxxx"
Close the editor
And plug in your devices…
See you

Hi,
I have the same problem as Axel... I managed to install the Wi-Fi (with Livebox) for 20 minutes, then I got disconnected and couldn't reconnect... what are the possible solutions? Are there any? Or do I need to change my computer just to have wireless internet? -

Hello.
Here is my problem: I have a Windows XP with an Intel Inside card and a SP3 pack, every time I plug in a USB key or an external hard drive, a message appears saying it can work faster. I would like to install a high-speed USB port, but I can't manage to do it...
Could you help me?
Thank you in advance!

Hi, I have a similar problem... among other things, lol
I manually installed the USB driver; it recognizes the Intel 82801EB enhanced USB2 controller - 24DD but does not activate it because an issue occurred during installation, lol. When I put the motherboard CD in the drive and click on the USB2 driver, it simply tells me to install the SP2 pack – which I did. I know it works because I did it before. The USB controller is recognized and functional, BUT in my case, I am experiencing repeated crashes! I'm happy because my PC hasn't crashed for an hour now.
I had to change the motherboard, processor, and parts because of a storm, and since I retrieved it, it has never crashed as much as it does now!!!
MOTHERBOARD: ASUS P5P800 socket 775
processor: Pentium 4 3.0 GHz
RAM: 2 sticks of 512 DDR
hard drives: 30 GB and 80 GB
graphics card: GeForce 4 MX 440 64DDR
OS: Windows XP Professional
I formatted yesterday, and the computer crashes regularly. It even crashed while updating my graphics card... it crashed while installing the SP2 pack AND it crashed while downloading Windows updates. I think I have a hardware issue... but apart from the graphics card and the 30 GB hard drive, everything is new!!
So please!! Help me! I can't take it anymore having to reset my computer all the time! I don't know what to do...
Normally, a clean and freshly installed system shouldn't crash!
Does anyone have a solution? And above all! I hope that if that's the case, I'll be able to come read it, lol. -
I also have the problem with a Gmini that tells me it could go faster... and nothing in the workstation...
The driver for the disk is the one from Windows, it's the name of Toshiba that is displayed...
My Gmini was working perfectly under Windows 2000, but now it doesn't want to anymore... I've changed all the drivers in the world... the Via, the USB (1, 2, whatever you want...
My motherboard is USB 1,
Thank you if you have a solution, I'm getting desperate...
