Hello everyone, quick question, is it possible to use a USB 3.0 drive on a USB 2.0 port?

Hi

In principle yes, but just like a USB 2.0 stick on a USB 1.0 port, the USB 3.0 stick will work at the speed of the port it is plugged into.

False, when I transfer files to my USB 3.0 hard drive, the speed is incredible; in 4 minutes, I can transfer over 5 GB, whereas with my USB 2.0 flash drive, it takes 30 minutes (or more) to transfer 5 GB. So I don't believe it affects the speed. (Maybe it's due to my SSD ^^)

Scarface72 is right...

Your comparison kendrickxy doesn't make any sense. If your drive had been USB 2.0, it's very likely that the transfer rate would have been higher than your USB stick.

I have a hard drive that is USB 3.0, and when I connect it to a USB 3.0 port, I assure you that the speed is MUCH higher than what I get when the same drive is connected to a USB 2.0 port (on the same PC).

So USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0 with the transfer ceiling being the capability of the USB 2.0 port AND the device connected to it. A USB 3.0 device does not necessarily mean it can reach the maximum allowed speed. If its maximum speed is not higher than that of USB 2.0, then the transfer rates should be very similar.
