How to quit the game?

Hello,
Yes, it's a really silly problem, but it forces me to close the program like an idiot or even restart my computer. I'm on PC. So the issue is that I can't exit the game Assassin's Creed (the first one).
I try to do it properly and I leave the Animus. Then I ask to quit the game. It does, but it sends me back to the main menu where it asks me which session I want to choose (basically, which part I want to continue). And despite my repeated efforts, I still haven't found a way to exit the game.
I've looked in the documentation, of course, it's not explained. And online, every time, it's about unwanted game closure issues.
I realize this is a silly question, but it's ruining my gaming experience... Thanks in advance!

This game is super long to quit! There are even articles about it!

(also check out the Youtube video ^^)
Basically, in the gameplay sequence, you have to do [esc] => Quit the sequence => are you sure? => yes => Quit the animus => [esc] => Quit the game => are you sure? => yes => You go back to the main screen or you have to press a button to continue => then you choose a profile (!) => Quit => are you sure? (just in case ^^) => YES!!
And finally, you return to your desktop!
It's super long to quit, thanks to the poor menu porting...

This is not the first PC game adapted from a console version that has this kind of issue...
The easiest and quickest way to exit the game is the key combination [Alt] + [F4].

Well, if you close the program and it doesn't work, then restart your computer.
See you! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I can't help you, but if you press the little "windows" logo (next to ALT), it will take you back to your desktop. It works for me with The Sims 3 and with other games.
I tried, but it doesn't switch me to Windows. Maybe it does, but behind the game's screen, like with the task manager.
I had also tried to bring up the task manager with Ctrl+Alt+Delete, but I'm on Vista, so it brings up the menu asking if I want to open the task manager, lock the computer, switch users, or restart. Except for the restart, it sends me back to the game.
For the task manager, at first, it would display it in Windows, and I could close the game (not very cleanly, I know). But now, it just opens it in the background and returns me to the game screen.
