Hello,
I now have Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit, and I'm looking to change the startup background, that is to say, where the "Welcome" appears and where you have to type your login password. The themes only change the desktop background.

Thank you in advance!
Configuration: Windows 7 Firefox 3.5.5

Personally, I don't like having to install software for such a small task.
So I suggest a little method that works very well.

Here, I will modify a registry key, so first of all, always back up your registry before touching it, simple precautionary measure. (File then export and then you give it the name you want, etc...)

The simplest way is to change the logon background by modifying a registry key.

    How to do it:

    Launch the Registry Editor.
The easiest way is to launch the executor by pressing "windows"+r, then type "regedit" and hit enter.

Then, once the Registry Editor is launched:

    1- Back up your registry
    2- follow the path below

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI]

Then double click on "OEMBackground", and change the 0 in "Value data" to a 1. (It doesn't matter whether it's in Hexadecimal or Decimal, as 1 in Hex = 1 in Dec.)
    Then click on "OK".

    The registry modification is complete.

    But it's not over
3- Now open File Explorer (windows+e) and follow the path below:

    C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info

and create a new folder that you will call "backgrounds" where you will put the images you want for the welcome screen.

Your images must be in JPG format
And be a maximum of 256 Ko
And finally, you must rename your images to the following name:

    backgroundDefault.jpg

You just have to admire it, "windows+L" or simply by logging off.

The path to modify the registry key was incomplete, my bad:
      [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background]

And for the folder to create, it is not "backgrounds" but "Backgrounds"

Personally, this is the method I use, and it works perfectly.

Why make it complicated when you can make it simpler

simply search on the C: drive for the image backgrounddefault.jpg

copy and rename your new image to the same location and the same name

and there you go, no need for software, no code....

    Hello,
excuse me, but I didn't understand how to change the background of the page where you enter your password? Do you need software? Or where else do you need to go?

    Hello,

I wanted to go into the registry to change the startup background but the file "OEMLogon.reg" does not show up on the screen. I tried to create it in the registry but it tells me that the file already exists.

How can I make it appear for modification?

    Thank you in advance.

You need to go into the subfolder "background" first, and then the file "OEMlogon" will appear.

    Hello,

Open the registry and set the value "OEMBackground" to 1

Copy the following into Notepad and save it as "OEMLogon.reg"

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background]
    "OEMBackground"=dword:00000001

Double click on the "OEMLogon.reg" file and accept the addition to the registry

Download "Logon Changer for Windows 7"
this software allows you to choose and install the wallpaper at user login

this modification does not allow changing the boot screen

There is no point in mixing the two methods as you suggest, turlututu73.

You either do it manually (through the registry).

Or you do it directly through the software, but there is no point in using both methods at the same time.

(By the way, your manipulation in the registry seems incomplete!)

I would prefer to make changes via the registry, but I don't understand very well. Is your notepad file already existing or if not, where should I insert it?
And what exactly should I write in it?
I hope that one day I will be able to change my desktop background again :(

Hello everyone, I have a problem, the famous Catalyst Control Center: Host has stopped working, and since I have this problem, I can't change my desktop background. Let me explain, I can display solid colors, but when I try to set an image such as the default Windows image or predefined images like the 3 penguins or the waterfall, nothing happens; the color stays the same except that the start menu bar changes.

I don't understand why the desktop background won't change even when I want to use Windows photos.

    I hope someone can help.

    Thank you.

There’s an easier way to do everything. You download LOGON CONTROLLER from http://www.brothersoft.com/logon-controller-for-vista-and-windows-7-279333.html

This software contains spyware because it is hosted on Brothersoft. Like Softonic, they add the installation of unwanted software, very unwanted.

Hello, my name is CLOVIS, I followed your steps to change the startup background image on Windows. The previous image is gone, but the new image I wanted to use does not display; instead, the original Windows image reappears!
    What should I do?
