Good evening, after installing Seven I find myself with a windows.old file that I can't delete: you do not have administrator rights even though I am. Thank you.
Configuration: Windows 7 Firefox 3.5.3

To permanently delete Windows.old, go to the Start menu, type in the search "Disk Cleanup", and click on it.
The program will load, then click on Clean up system files.

The program will load one last time.

Check Previous versions of Windows.
Finally, click OK.

This process completely removes Windows.old.

You can mark it as [RESOLVED].

No, because this option "previous Windows installations" is not always offered.

Well, it's that you've already deleted Windows.old
I don't see why Windows wouldn't detect your old Windows.
Or maybe you have this Windows.old with a few small files or even nothing in it at all.

Are you sure you clicked on Clean system files and checked Previous Windows installation(s)

PS: If you have made several attempts to delete Windows.old, this folder will become increasingly damaged.

Hello. I pretentiously solved the nocad13 solution; it's crazy, it works by itself. Generosity and sharing are very beautiful values. Thank you.

What a pretentious guy this nocad lol but he's right, if you click well on "Clean up system files" and check "previous Windows installations" it does delete the "windows old" file and I've managed to free up 113GB and my PC has never worked so well. I think we need to read carefully what people tell us huh "noob but not stupid", I don't know who is more stupid now lol. In any case, your message is nothing intelligible now :)

Hello
Firstly, we are not talking about the same thing here
In some cases, when you delete windows.old, a part remains like a remnant, that is to say C:\Windows.old\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\SecuROM\UserData

For me, and as "noob but not stupid" pointed out, it is impossible to remove this residue from windows.old, whether through cleanup in safe mode or otherwise:

C:\Windows.old\Users\admin\AppData\Roaming\SecuROM\UserData

Warning

Before using Disk Cleanup, ensure that all your files and settings are in the desired location. Deleting the Windows.old folder cannot be undone.

1. To open the Control Panel, swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Search (or, if you're using a mouse, point to the upper right corner of the screen and move the pointer down, then click Search), type Control Panel in the search box, then tap or click Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel search box, type Admin, tap or click Administrative Tools, then double-tap or double-click Disk Cleanup.

3. If prompted to select a drive, choose the one where you just installed Windows, then tap or click OK.

4. In the Disk Cleanup dialog, tap or click Clean up system files.

If you are prompted again to select a drive, choose the one where you just installed Windows, then tap or click OK.

5. Check the box for Previous Windows installation(s) and any other checkboxes corresponding to the files to be deleted, then tap or click OK.

6. In the message that appears, tap or click Delete Files.

The most effective solution to date remains DelinvFile, which does the job well even in evaluation version. It deletes everything it's presented with. It's the nightmare of Windows.old, believe me! You need to run the app once installed as an admin and it's done! The link just below

Microsoft offers the same solution that I provided in this post even though I haven't even consulted their site lol.
Well, we can conclude that on forums it feels like we’re a big family, helping each other without receiving anything in return.
Helping people as I can makes me smile, it seems like I'm just writing but seeing your responses really makes me happy :)

Bumping the topic but it needs to be done!

When we try to delete this folder manually for the first time, we can no longer delete it using Disk Cleanup afterward, and for good reason, the "previous version" option is no longer available. The initial question is therefore: "how to delete windows.old when the previous version option is no longer available in Disk Cleanup?" At that point, you can mark the topic as resolved ;)

noob mais pas stupide

So Nocad, I find your message pretentious; know that I have done this many times and it doesn't work. Also, if you think we were waiting for you to get this solution, you are mistaken. So I ask again, do you have a solution to delete the "windows.old" folder????
I have tried several manipulations
Even in safe mode
as well as in cmd as an administrator "c:\del /s windows.old"
and it still doesn't work. So if someone has a concrete and understandable answer, I am all ears.
Thank you in advance...
