Hello,
As a newcomer to this, I have questions. I've always had old CRT TVs, and I thought one day I needed to step up.
HD, HDTV, HDMI, Full HD... I don't understand anything.
I'm looking to buy a TV just for gaming. I want to enjoy high definition a bit, but I just noticed today that there are TVs with HDMI ports but without HDTV... To me, HDMI was just the cable that converted the image to HD, right? But without the HDTV?
So, is a game connected with an HDMI cable on an HDTV better than a game connected via HDMI but on a TV without the HDTV?

HDMI does not transform what passes through it; it simply "transports" data between the device and the television, in digital rather than analog form, which improves quality. HDTV stands for high-definition television, which depends on the size of the screen (more info at https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haute_d%C3%A9finition)

Hello, I will provide a short and simple response: if you buy a TV tomorrow, it will be "HDTV," as you say, either "720p" or "1080p," and it will have a built-in "DTT" decoder. This is the standard. The "HDMI cable" is the digital replacement for the analog SCART, just type these acronyms in quotes on the web for more details.
Okay, but I'm aiming for small TVs around 60cm, it's just for gaming and I don't have a big budget...
But from what I've seen on sites like Fnac and others, there are TVs with HDMI ports but without HDTV, right?
But I've also seen TVs without HDTV but with a resolution of 1680x1050, is that possible?

A TV with a screen resolution higher than 720p is not necessarily HD, or is it the other way around?
Hello,
Ah, the High-Tech jargon! It can be quite confusing.
There's no shame in not knowing.
But with a little effort, it's possible to improve your knowledge.
At the bottom of the page, there is a glossary. And as Glandu points out, by typing HDTV into Google, you'll be directed to references, like Wikipedia.
After some research, Tselan, you'll better understand the jargon or technical terms.

HDMI = digital connection, 480p, 576, 720p, 1080i or 1080p we can have low resolution SD or high definition HD
HDTV = TV with TNT HD tuner 720p or 1080p/24p
With a PS3, connect via HDMI, you can play in HD and watch Blu-Ray movies
Even in SD, the HDMI connection provides a much better result both in sound and image, you can find excellent gold connector cables for less than 10 euros, it's easier to use and takes up less space, we gain on all fronts

Hello Stewartia,
I invited Tselan to carry out research so that the answers would be more detailed.
Responding to a technical term with other technical terms, I'm not sure that this helps move things forward.
Each definition, while correct, deserves more details for a layperson.
Furthermore, I believe it is important to remind the seekers that help is not synonymous with dependency. They too need to learn to take responsibility for themselves.

HD is often misused; you’re sold an HD computer monitor, an HDMI home theater, or a DVD player with HD output (for HDMI). I mention these phenomena because while the standard for TVs is an integrated HD TNT tuner, other devices sometimes suffer from this misleading label. You can find HDMI home theaters that only process video but not HD sound (for real information: https://www.son-video.com/), and sometimes not even sound at all. For DVD players with HDMI output, there are still some with this digital output in low resolution, not to mention recorders that don’t even have a TNT tuner (I’m not talking about the expensive and rare HD TNT), HDMI port with "upscaling" 1080p, built-in hard drive, and......... analog tuner. Finally, for gaming, it’s better to choose an LCD TV with a fast response time; for everything else, a high-end graphics card is needed to support 1920 x 1080 resolution.
For Tselan, it would be wise to check sites like lesnumeriques.com: https://www.lesnumeriques.com/tv-televiseur/comparatif-tv-televiseurs-hd-lcd-led-plasma-a303.html LCD Compare: https://www.lcd-compare.com/tv-liste-122.htm to get an idea.
Assisting someone isn’t really my goal; it’s more about countering the misleading advertising that is politely referred to as “commercial offers.” Spending several hundred euros only to find that the equipment is not quite what was expected is a hard pill to swallow.
