How to unlock a PDF file

I have already tried. It clearly states that my document is password protected. But it doesn't give me the option to unlock it.

You click on your file and at the prompt "open with" you give (click on) the program that opens the PDF file.

I've had the same issue for ages and I still haven't found a solution either. I password-protect my PDFs out of habit and necessity, but they are protected, and now I need to remove the protection in order to edit them, just like pitchoune. If anyone knows the answer, please avoid random suggestions like "well normally you just open and choose protection in the file menu" because the file menu doesn't include that!
So if anyone has the solution to unlock a PDF in Adobe Reader, while knowing the password, I would love to read it.
