Facebook friend suggestion

Same problem as you, Morgane8888.
Someone older than me has been suggested as a friend.

No connections, no mutual friends, different networks. Moreover, their friend list is very small (less than 10 people).
The name didn't ring a bell. Nothing.
Until this same person, who is clearly trying to contact me, sends me a message on copainsdavant.
It's someone I haven't seen in 20 years, since I was 5, which shows how unaware I was of their existence.
Of course, I didn't have their contact details in any of my directories.

Without direct evidence of Facebook's actions, I can only choose to think that FB suggests people who try to visit our profiles, whether they are public (like yours) or private (like mine).
And conversely, if you visit someone's page.

Clearly, yes, FB does not respect privacy. And presumably not our personal data.

Personal note:
By trying to copy social networks like Facebook, many sites have made our personal data public. The drift of the terms of use.

Check the permissions on your Windows Live profile; it shares more and more information about us, even with blocked people.
Copainsdavant provides your city of residence, publicly, and you can't hide it; it's just as dangerous.

I am experiencing the same problem as you, FB suggests a considerable list of "friends" that I do not wish to have on my account. Wanting to do a test period, I did not trust this site at all, I created a special email address with no contacts and from which I have never written to anyone, I only invited 2 distant friends who live on the other side of the world (no mutual friends, of course), I never searched for people I did not want to see (I was already wary of the history of visits), of course I set everything to private on my account with a pseudonym. I even invented data about my city, my place of birth and did not put anything about my studies or work.. I was fully protected, really! (not even a frontal photo either! some facial recognition software existing now > see Picasa)

And lo and behold, big brother suggests my family, my former lovers (yes yes!!), very very old friends of friends, and who knows who else (the list is long! maybe I'll find my first grade teacher? my employer? my banker? ..). In short, I totally, absolutely disagree with their policy.

For me, there is no magic or chance: they put trackers in our computers and smartphones! and retrieve data from our directories from all our email boxes with all the old email addresses! or even cross their email addresses with others if they want to go to the end.

The hardest part will be explaining my French paranoia to my foreign friends to justify the imminent closing of my ephemeral FB account.

I find it outrageous, what was supposed to be just a playful "social" site quickly became a data theft site for commercial purposes!!

They must necessarily put spyware in computers and phones, because even when being very careful to sign up with an email address that has never been used for anything other than registering on these sites, they end up knowing if we had a profile before and track down the family, the product we consulted when searching on Google, if we have a blog with a pseudonym, etc.... I too have had bad experiences with these sites and blogs on Blogger as well. The internet is there to retain data on people and violate privacy.

For me, it's worse. I have a Facebook profile with just a pseudonym (not my first and last name) that is certainly not known by one of my friends who lives in the USA.
I received a friend suggestion on Facebook for this person even though we have NO mutual friends (not even friends of friends), no groups in common.
The only thing that could possibly explain this, and which is really concerning, is that Facebook might be able to see the email addresses of the people who have emailed me on my email account that I used to register on FB (Hotmail).

If they can read my emails or see who is emailing me, that's really over the top.

Facebook can find people through other networks like MSN, Yahoo, and all other email addresses.
