Facebook friend suggestions

Hello,
I have a question about Facebook,
A person (an ex in this case) was suggested to me as a friend even though I have no contact with him, it dates back more than 20 years so there was no mobile phone at the time (we used to call from my parents' house via a landline and they have changed their number since), no emails, no internet, no computer back then, no mutual friends, no links like school, location, activity, or ideas, even back then, I live hundreds of kilometers away today so nothing at all;
How could he appear in the suggestions?? It's not the fact that he shows up that worries me, it's that I wonder how this could have been traced given that there is really no contact or common acquaintances!!!
The last possibility is that he consulted my profile, right? I'm questioning how Facebook works.

        In an article from the Washington Post, which is a reference in the field, it is explained that the "You may know" algorithm is based on "network science."

        By defining the networks to which we belong, Facebook calculates our chances of knowing a particular person. And it can even predict our future friendships. A bit of probability and it's in the bag.

        "It's not magic, just very advanced mathematics," we learn.
