Hi, I have a problem. I have another hard drive where Windows XP Home is installed, and now I need to activate it, but I can't, and it's impossible to install XP Pro on top of it now. So, I put it as a slave on this computer to recover my files before formatting it, but when I try to transfer my files from one disk to another, it says that I have a flux loss and I can't read the file. I took a screenshot if you want to see exactly what it shows me.
Is there anyone who could help me????
Thanks in advance.
Configuration: amd athlon processor 1.3Ghz 512 mo de ram geforce 4 mx 440...etc /xp pro sp1 v2002

There is no reason you can't install a PRO version over a Windows FAM as long as you have a non-OEM CD, simply by doing an upgrade instead of a fresh install...
Now all new versions of Windows MUST be activated

The problem is that I don't have a bootable Windows XP Pro CD to reinstall it over, the computer starts Windows and prevents the update.....

how did you install Windows XP PRO if you don't have the CD???
finally, I don't understand your question??
then why, because apart from the ISS server and the backup option, there is strictly no difference between your PRO version and the Home version

I have an installation CD of Windows XP Pro, but it is not bootable, meaning it does not launch automatically when the computer starts.
Then there is a big difference between my Pro version and the Home version since with the Home version I am required to activate it with Microsoft, but not with XP Pro.
And what is installed is a Home version; now to avoid activation, I want to install XP Pro over it, but I can't read the installation CD of Windows because Windows prevents me from accessing the desktop when it is in master and I can't install Windows when it is in slave, or so I believe (loool).
However, my problem is not there; I want to back up my files before formatting the hard drive, and I've put it in slave on another computer, so far so good, but when I transfer my files, Windows tells me that I have a loss of stream (file thumbs.db, database file that we see when we enable hidden files)...
My question is how can I avoid this loss of stream??
If not, I didn't understand your story about the ISS server (what is that?? lool)
and your backup possibility. If there is another way to back up my files, could you explain it to me please???
Thanks again.

NO...the ORIGINAL cd-rom is bootable... and like the family version, it must be activated

I think we're straying a bit from the topic.......
I agree with you that an original CD is bootable, but as you said, it has to be original...
And no, it's not mandatory to activate Windows XP Pro, I'm sure of that.... :-/

Hi,

Well, I finally managed to solve this flow problem by making the hidden files such as thumbs and desktop visible and by putting all the files from one folder into an empty folder.

Anyway, thanks for trying to help me and best of luck!!
