I found the solution, finally, I think.
I just had to install the latest beta version and Chrome is again as fast on my laptop as on my desktop PC.

For your information, I am on Windows 7.
I just had to disable the proxy as one of the members described:
go to settings - advanced settings - network - change proxy settings - connections - network settings - uncheck: proxy server - ok.
Moreover, I removed: background apps.
It's not slow at all anymore, it's perfect for now at least!

Google is a good browser. What seems to be happening is that Google Earth/Google Chrome is heavy software, and if the RAM is insufficient, this software added to those already on the computer causes slowdowns that didn't exist before. Like a car pulling 500 kilos at 100 km/h but caps out at 75 km/h if it has to pull 750: it needs a more powerful "engine" to haul those 750 kilos at 100 km/h... a bit more RAM for the PC.

For me, Chrome is very slow on Facebook for example it doesn't load the page when I click on a link (you have to refresh the page) and the same problem occurs with Google searches, especially with instant search; the pages are not smooth at all.

I also had this problem recently, and after searching for several days on countless forums, I managed to resolve the issue on my end (though I can't say if the cause of the problem is the same for you...)

In fact, it's an infestation of a virus that occurs when installing new software; it quietly installs a 'toolbar' (babylon/delta search/Ask) in the settings and in the registry of various web browsers.
<avoid software from other sites, always take from the official site!>

In principle, by correcting the default search engine in the Google Chrome settings (Google instead of toolbar search) and by uninstalling the toolbar through the control panel/uninstall a program; this should restore functionality quickly;

However, for me, it wasn't enough; slowdowns of 15 seconds for each tab opening persisted;

I then consulted tons of forums, tried improbable things, and nothing worked. I ran antivirus/malware scans with ZoneAlarm, Malwarebytes, Windows scan, Spybot..... it yielded no results.

I then tried another antimalware: adwcleaner to uncover and destroy this hidden virus lurking in the depths of my PC;

and there, after a 5-minute scan, closing other programs, then pressing the delete button at the end of the scan..... nothing left!

The virus was destroyed! And Google Chrome regained the speed of its 20 years!

Anyway, I'm writing all this to help some people who have the same problem as me since I spent days finding the solution! Even though, be careful, this is not the absolute solution, and maybe it won't work for you with adwcleaner but with another one....

To summarize and conclude:
- 15s slowdown per tab = installed toolbar/virus
- if random issue and Firefox and other browsers are unaffected, then it's not a connection or proxy problem but a hidden virus!
- goal: run a scan with an antimalware (for me it's adwcleaner that worked best) then click delete
- if the problem persists, try another antimalware, or reinstall Chrome from scratch, or attempt a complete registry cleanup / or at worst a major restore

Hello, I also have a problem with Google Chrome for some time; it lags especially with videos. When I watch in small screen it works, but when I switch to full screen it stutters. I solved the problem by using Firefox and it works perfectly there, really strange.

Regular cache clearing can also resolve some issues (Ctrl+Shift+Delete) as well as cleaning with appropriate software (Advance SystemCare, CCleaner, etc.).
