Hello,
I just bought an LG RC 388 VHS DVD combo
I am trying to connect it to a 10-year-old TV with an external TNT decoder following the recommended setup: combo - TNT decoder - then TV (Scart + antenna cables going to the combo first)
We can watch TNT with the combo connected (it took some time to find a compatible AV setting on the TV remote), but to record on the combo, I have to unplug the TNT; otherwise, the programming menus do not appear... so it is impossible to record TNT....
Is there a solution?
Thank you for your responses.

Hello,
I just bought this LG combo that I am very satisfied with so far,
I was able to copy my old VHS tapes to DVD to back them up,
and the recording function from a digital camcorder is also working;
however, I have a problem with scheduled recording on the TV (Sony Z4500):
I choose to record on channel AV1 a TNT channel:
the recording is done correctly with good picture quality, but
I cannot turn off the TV
as soon as I turn off the TV, since it's channel AV1 that is recording, the rc388 no longer receives a signal and records a black screen.
Is there a workaround for this?
Should I make specific connections or set something in the menus?
If this could be resolved, this rc388 would be perfect :) -
Hello, try it like this: TNT tuner --> combi SCART input, combi SCART output --> TV. Make sure to select the right input to record TNT. The antenna cable goes to the TNT tuner and the antenna output from the TNT tuner goes to the TV (you can route it through the combi and back out to the TV, but that wouldn't be very useful, as recordings are done via the TNT tuner and not the analog, so it's not necessary).

Good evening,
I am posting this message because I have a problem with the LG RC 388 combi.
I have a Samsung LCD TV (with a SCART connection) and a Canal+ decoder (the new one) as well as the famous combi.
My problem is that I can't get the TV image on a channel (AV1 or another) from my combi.
Please let me know how to resolve this issue as I have tried your combinations and can't find the solution.
Thank you in advance
Best regards

Hello, I am about to buy this device; have you found a solution to be able to record with TNT? Thank you.
-
Good evening, normally it's AV2. The input on the recorder is done through its top SCART. In the recorder's menu, it needs to be set to 'decoder', according to its manual...
-
On the combo, just press home, then properly connect the decoder to the TV, and it works. It took me a long time to figure it out; it wasn’t easy, but there’s no reason you shouldn’t succeed. And don’t forget that it’s cascading, and set the TV to AV2.
Don’t follow the manual; you need to be Korean.....
I have nothing against Koreans; otherwise, it’s a great product, you’ll see.
Best regards

Good evening, I downloaded your manual... Connect as stated in post 1: TNT tuner (the SCART that normally goes to the TV if there are two) --> SCART input of the combo (AV2 SCART on top), SCART output of the combo (AV1 at the bottom) --> TV. The antenna cable arriving at the TNT tuner and from the tuner to the TV...
Then, please select 'RGB' (I think your setting is incorrect and that's what is causing the issue) for the video output signal (see page 15), and 'satellite reception' for the AV2 input.
It is still not normal that the TNT tuner disrupts the display of the menu!!! It should have priority! The fact that your TV only has one SCART and that the TNT tuner is one tuner does not change the issue. -
Good evening
The channel setup has already been done on the combi, but with your wiring solution, I can only record the analog channels... Apparently, I need to disconnect the tuner to record in analog and reconnect the antenna to the tuner and the SCART cable to record the digital channels... convenient when access behind the TV isn't great!!
Have a nice evening. -
Thank you Toto, we tried starting with TNT COMBI TV but that doesn't work either
I'm trying the Darty assistance solution which will call back, I don't see any other options .... -
Thank you Toto
but the TV only has 1 Scart socket, that's why we connected it last. TNT Combi TV or TV Combi TNT always has the same effect, you have to choose between TNT or the menu display for recording, Darty's support can't find it either!
But I haven't tried just the Scart combi - TNT yet, should I give it a try if the TV only has 1 Scart?
By the way, the TNT decoder is just a simple tuner, is this the reason? -
Good evening
and thank you for downloading the manual, now it works!
Actually, we had selected AV2 output as "decoder" instead of "satellite reception"
we can record live and in time-shift, the only small issue is that in time-shift, we can only select numbers from 1 to 9, whereas there are many TNT channels after 9...
We haven't tried recording to DVD or transferring VHS to DVD yet...
Let's hope it will be easier!-
Hello, since the TNT tuner is external and connected to AV2, when recording directly or deferred, you just need to indicate the source 'AV2' and turn on your external tuner and then choose the appropriate channel, any channel!! Don't you do it like that? If you choose between 1 and 9 on the combo, it records the analog channels if the antenna is connected to its antenna input!
- Hello,
I have a similar issue to helplaur59.
I don’t have an antenna, just a satellite dish and a Canal+ decoder.
I have a newer TV with 2 SCARTs: 2 AV and 1 RGB.
I tried Output VCR from the decoder -> AV2 Combo
Antenna output combo -> TV
Second SCART from the combo -> RGB TV
I have no visible signal on the TV.
I want to specify that I tried both options on the combo decoder and satellite without success.
Do you have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Hello again
I am still receiving emails regarding our discussion about the LG Combi and I have seen that other people are also having problems installing it. I take this opportunity to mention that I still cannot record the analog channels by following your advice on the TNT - Combi - TV connection and the settings on "satellite reception"
and AV2 the recording is programmed but nothing is saved during playback
I tried unplugging the TNT from the circuit and using only TV - Combi but then the Home button doesn't work anymore!!!!
I'm sorry but with the return to school I haven't had time to deal with this since
This combi is a real headache.... -
Hello, for the analog signal, see post 1, you need to connect the antenna cable to the recorder. Since you have a TNT tuner, I would have thought you would do your recordings with it! It’s better to record TNT and watch the analog signal than the other way around, but that’s just my opinion... You need to set your analog tuner (search for the 6 channels).
-
Hello
I have already tried to connect the antenna first to the combi and combi-tv but it didn't work... a bit tired...
Should I also change other settings, for example in video output, not to leave "satellite antenna"?
I tried to do it with "decoder" output but no recording, black screen and white spots...
There are interesting programs on the analog channels, and I mostly record when I'm away...
Thank you for your response.-
Hello, simply plug your antenna cable into the input of your combo and connect it to the TV via SCART, unplugging everything else. Then, you need to start the channel search on your combo, which apparently hasn't been done! On your combo, when you select channel 1, you should have TF1, channel 2 = F2, etc. This is analog, so to record France 2 in analog, you need to set the combo to channel 2... If the channel search and setup have never been done on the combo, there will be nothing available!

Hello, since you are recording a channel via the TV's internal tuner, no, you can't turn it off!! You need an external TNT tuner then...
-
Thank you toto86 for the relevance and responsiveness of your comments,
I will therefore try the solution of the additional TNT tuner on the second SCART socket,
I had sent an email to LG support who responded very quickly:
"The recorder needs to receive a signal to have material to work with.
Unfortunately, there is no manipulation that allows to catch the signal on the TV if it cuts off all signal when the TV is turned off."
This therefore aligns with your diagnosis... to be continued... -
... continuation and conclusion:
so I connected my old Sagem TD64 TNT tuner and indeed this way I can record via the Sagem TNT tuner and turn off the TV,
to turn off the Sagem, there is a way in its menu to stop it at a specific time (which is convenient for recording at night)
so it’s a bit of a shame that there isn’t a built-in TNT tuner, but I suppose this helps sell other products; otherwise, this little rc388 would almost be perfect, especially with a USB input to connect a hard drive and record on it...
thanks again to toto86 :) -
