Hello,
I have a Samsung NC10 laptop, and I'm encountering the following issue: a white screen appears very often and disappears a few seconds later. Has anyone experienced the same problem, and does anyone know what it might be due to or how to solve it?
Thank you in advance!! =)

The white screen is related to a hardware issue, not a software one!
Therefore, only a hardware solution is possible. This also explains why SAMSUNG considers nothing other than retrieving the laptop from your home to repair it. No update will fix the problem.
Two hypotheses;
-Either your NC10 is still under warranty, in which case you need to contact SAMSUNG's customer service, who will handle the retrieval and replacement of the defective cable at their expense, of course.
-Or your NC10 is no longer under warranty, then you will have to open the laptop yourself, pull a bit on the cable to give it some flexibility, and then disconnect and reconnect the cable. Personally, I used a bit of tape to hold it all in place. To understand the purpose of this maneuver, you need to know that the opening movement of the screen causes the cable to loosen. Conversely, the closing movement creates tension in the cable that can lead to disconnecting, even minimally, the cable. Hence the white screens. This manufacturing defect explains why the white screen disappears or reappears when you manipulate the screen's tilt.
Here’s a tutorial to disassemble the NC10 https://www.journaldugeek.com/dossier/tuto-demonter-son-samsung-nc10/
Info: In the 6th photo, the cable corresponds to the thick black cable just to the right of the fan.

Hello everyone,
I'm bringing this topic back up because I found a solution to the white screen issue with the Samsung NC10.
First of all, it's a hardware problem related to a connector of the screen.
WARNING: people with a warranty should not open their laptop but simply contact Samsung. For others (like me), follow these instructions:
To fix this issue, you need to open the device; you can see this very simple tutorial:
https://www.journaldugeek.com/dossier/tuto-demonter-son-samsung-nc10/
Once that's done, you should see two cables surrounded by a black cover coming out of one of the corners; one of these cables will connect to a socket named "csp monitoring pad". You need to unplug it, then clean it before plugging it back in correctly.
The part of my Samsung NC10 was not defective but simply poorly connected and very dirty, and since then, I haven't had any problems at all.

Therefore, only a hardware solution is feasible. This also explains why SAMSUNG is not considering anything other than picking up the laptop from your home to repair it. No update will fix the problem.
Two possibilities;
-Either your NC10 is still under warranty, in which case you need to contact the SAMSUNG after-sales service, which will take care of retrieving and replacing the defective ribbon cable at their expense, of course.
-Or your NC10 is no longer under warranty, so you will have to open the laptop yourself, pull a bit on the cable to give it some flexibility, then unplug and replug the ribbon. Personally, I used a bit of tape to hold everything in place. To understand the purpose of this maneuver, it should be noted that the screen opening movement causes the ribbon to loosen. Conversely, the closing movement puts tension on the cable, which can lead to disconnecting, even slightly, the ribbon. Hence the white screens. This manufacturing defect explains why the white screen disappears or reappears when you play with the tilting of the screen.
Here is a tutorial for disassembling the NC10 https://www.journaldugeek.com/dossier/tuto-demonter-son-samsung-nc10/
Info: In the sixth photo, the ribbon corresponds to the large black cable seen just to the right of the fan.

Hi,
I also have this problem, I think it's a connectivity issue, but I will still try the BIOS manipulation.
I'll keep you updated!

Hello,
Today’s update: unresolved issue.
So I called SAMSUNG customer service at 0148630000, which is aware of the problem, but I can’t repeat what it is. Something with the motherboard and I don’t know what else.
So they will pick up my PC from my home for free in 48 hours to repair it. Even though I bought it from a website called GROSB..... Expected return in about a week.
In case you contact them: make sure you have the model number + SN located on the back of the PC + invoice.
The request can be made online, but it’s quicker by phone.
I will keep you updated on the situation.
See you soon.

Hello,
The news is good:
My PC was supposed to be picked up on September 3rd, and SAMSUNG messed up my contact details (that's their excuse).
I called them back on September 7th, my PC was picked up on the 9th and returned on the 11th repaired: it's wonderful!!
It was an intermittent backlight problem.
Resolved by replacing the LCD ribbon with a CBF HARNESS LCD WINCHESTER WIRE U 1.3
In the end, I have a report on the tests carried out and it's returned in good condition.
I'm rather satisfied with Samsung's customer service, hoping that no other issues arise
Good luck to you.

so do your backups and reinstall it yourself first because they will reinstall it in the service center anyway to confirm the failure
and how did the BIOS update go for the others?

The problem is the same after the manipulation. In fact, I was already in AUTO, I switched to CONTROL USER and it was worse!
Going back to AUTO is the same. I think I'm going to call SAMSUNG, but shouldn't I call my seller first? (Carrefour for me)

Yes, generally if I increase the brightness to the maximum, I get a white screen. So I usually stay at the 2nd or 3rd notch.
I adjust the brightness manually, so I don't let the battery software control it.
I've had fewer problems since then, but I think it's just a workaround and I'm going to have to contact SAMSUNG's customer service.

Hello everyone, I also had the same problem; when I increased the brightness or plugged the laptop into the mains, I had a white screen, and I had to fiddle with the brightness settings or tilt the screen to get a visible display.
It was really becoming unbearable over time.
After trying to resolve this issue in various ways (Samsung recovery, going into the BIOS...), nothing worked, so I took my laptop to the service center. I went to Auchan where they gave me a phone number to call to reach Samsung's customer service. I called them, and they took all my details, and a courier was supposed to come pick up my laptop.
I called on Monday afternoon, the courier came to my house on Wednesday morning, and I just picked it up (Friday morning) and miracle, it's working.
So honestly, congratulations to Samsung's customer service. I was afraid to send it and end up without a laptop for a month (which happened to my girlfriend with ACER for a keyboard issue), but Samsung delivered; just 48 hours without a laptop, pickup and delivery at home.
So if I can give a piece of advice to anyone facing this white screen issue, don’t hesitate to send it in; it’s really great to enjoy the full brightness of your laptop.
Just so you know, I don't know much about computers; the information report states: Display issue observed resolved by the replacement of the LCD panel. LCD panel VGA and CBF Hardness LCD Winchester. I have no idea what that means, but I noticed that I had a brand new screen (thanks Samsung; I had a nasty mark in the middle of the laptop from twisting the screen to get rid of that white screen).
So there you go, I’m really happy.

Hi,
Having the same issue, I took apart the netbook, properly taped the wire so it wouldn't move anymore, and it's been working like a charm for the past 2 months :p

Hi,
I am in the same situation as you. I would have been happy to contact SAMSUNG to replace the defective part, but unfortunately, I took too long and my warranty has expired.
I reread all the comments on the topic and only you and TAGADOU are in the same boat as me. You both had to open your NC10 and fixed the problem yourself.
" Having the same issue, I opened the netbook, properly taped the wire so it wouldn’t move anymore and it has been working smoothly for the past 2 months :p"
"I had the same problem except that I had bought the Samsung over a year ago, so there was no customer service. I took apart my PC, and I simply unplugged and re-plugged the screen cable and since then, no issues at all."
Not being a computer expert, I would like to know;
- if the process is difficult? Do I need any special tools?
- what exactly does the repair involve? (if you have any photos or a tutorial, I would really appreciate it :-D)
Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I am experiencing the same issue, whether it's powered by battery or plugged in. The symptoms are the same; the screen turns completely white for a few seconds, then everything goes back to normal. I will try to contact Samsung through their website, and we'll see afterwards, as it is still under warranty.
Have a nice day.

Hi, I was also in "Auto" in the BIOS and I changed it to "User Control" and it seems to work.
When you are in "User Control" mode, the screen brightness no longer adjusts automatically when switching from "AC" power to "battery" (and vice versa), you have to adjust it manually using the Fn key and the up or down arrow keys.

I sent my phone to customer service, and they sent me back someone else's!!!
How could they make such a mistake??

My NC10 was picked up by a carrier yesterday morning, SAMSUNG was very responsive since I called them the day before... so I have nothing to say on that front.
I will share my comments as soon as I receive it...

Same problem, white screen as soon as it is plugged into the mains!
I just called Samsung who referred me to "repair." 50143380900° they can see the manufacturing date (since I have no idea where my receipt might be, but I know that I've had it for a little over a year) and will cover it for free for 18 months! I'm off to the post office quickly!

No rush! Samsung France takes care of everything. My issue is resolved, the carrier found me at work. Laptop picked up on Monday, returned on Thursday; since then it works.
100% satisfied with Samsung's customer service. However, the professionalism of Samsung's hotline leaves me puzzled about their efficiency... Sorry for the rant I gave them but it felt good!!!

Hello
I also had the problem of the white screen more and more often and for longer periods. Being out of warranty, I opened it up with a small screwdriver and a credit card. I unplugged the cable from the motherboard; the wires were aligned with the connector and were therefore pressing on it and also getting crushed. I slightly loosened the tape near the connector and rerouted the wires to the side where there was space. I plugged it back in, reassembled it, turned it on, and for a month now, the white screen hasn't reappeared
So far, so good.

Thank you for these very well-documented and precise explanations; and it works.
guy
P.S.: It's not that easy to take apart the PC case, don't force it when it gets stuck, start from one side and then finish with the other side.
By the way, for a girl who's hopeless at DIY, it was a piece of cake!
One more big thank you and congratulations!
