Samsung T220 Screen Issue

Hello, here is my problem (slightly different from those who also have issues with their T220...)
I had a problem for some time where it would turn off for no reason and then turn back on... only to turn off again 5 minutes later... etc...
Since it was under warranty, I had it replaced, and the next day I received another one, which turned off again after just one hour! So, I checked the DVI cables, drivers, and everything... Still the same, so I thought about changing the power cable, and magically! It worked wonderfully! I thought the problem was solved after a whole day without the screen turning off.

The next morning I turned on my PC and surprise, it started turning off again... So I found a solution: every morning I have to unplug the screen (when it's on, otherwise it doesn't work) and plug it back in.

I'm hesitant to get my screen replaced again because if the same problem occurs with two screens, why would it not happen with a third? Could it be an electrical issue? I changed the outlet on my power strip but the result is the same...
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.5

If your problem is that the screen turns off every 4 seconds for about 10 hundredths of a second, I have the solution:

I noticed that my source button was quite sensitive (as mentioned earlier, this is due to a bad contact because of electromagnetic interference that damaged the button), and after disassembling my screen, I realized that it was the cause of these shutdowns.
I therefore removed the electronic component of the source button and everything works correctly now. However, I no longer have access to the screen menu, but it seems that you can buy this kind of component if you want.

Here is the procedure:
- Remove the stand
- Unscrew the two screws at the base
- Remove the plastic trim (don't be afraid, this is the hardest part)
- Detach the button panel by unclipping the circuit
- Desolder the 4 solder points of the source button
- Reassemble everything

I was lucky, I am using DVI and the screen works, however it no longer works in VGA (if you have this problem, buy a component of this type).

I will respond long after the posting of this message which was very useful to me. I took apart my screen, but before unsoldering the part, check the two copper legs that are attached to this plate to see if they are not deformed. If they are, put them back in place properly, clean everything well, and reassemble it all. This might solve your problem.

The brass legs were flawless and the problem was the same.
Once the four legs of the source button were unsoldered, the problem vanished!
A thousand thank yous!!!!!!! :)

Thank you and well spotted for the issue! I just "pressed" the button, it didn't change the source but my T220 stopped blinking! Thanks again.

Clarification: My screen is nearly 10 years old and it still works perfectly despite the horrible environment it's functioning in... This model is simply indestructible!

Hello,

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having this issue.
I've had my screen for over a year, and it turns off by itself from time to time (about ten times since I've had it).

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?

Hi everyone, I have the same issue as you, my screen is over a year old (two, actually). It turns off for no reason. I've done some tests:

Leaving it unplugged from the PC: same result, it turns off; so it's not Windows.
Tilting it in all directions when it turns off: nothing.
Shaking it: it turns back on.

When I look at it with backlighting or an external light, I can see the screen. So it's just the backlight that's malfunctioning.

Given the results of my tests, I conclude that there is likely a poorly made solder joint somewhere or a pin from a component that is poorly soldered, which causes the backlight to turn off. The problem is, it doesn't seem to be an easily disassembleable screen....

Well, I had it changed again (the cables too) but it's still the same problem...

Hi, I would like to know if you still have the same problem?

I have a problem that is not similar, but it is an issue with the screen turning on. In short, when I ask it to turn on, it tries to start but without success; the light blinks, reacts more or less quickly, and then it returns to solid without having managed to turn on the screen.

If you have a similar problem, feel free to leave a little message. I'm going to take the screen to the service center of my dealer so that Samsung can take care of it afterwards.

Hi,

I also have a similar problem with my t220.

It turns off from time to time and I have to press and hold the power button for a long time (20-25 seconds) to get it to restart. It's weird and quite frustrating since it's not even a year old.

Hi,

I have the same issue with my T220, random shutdowns, long press on on/off to turn it back on.
Too bad because otherwise it's a great screen......
See you!

Hello everyone,

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having this issue.
Indeed, like all of you, my screen randomly turns off every now and then, but it’s happening more and more often.
I also changed my monitor's power cable. But the issue persists.
This weekend, I even took apart my graphics card for a thorough cleaning, but that didn't change anything.
I don’t know what to do anymore.
Except maybe send it back to customer service, but given what I read above, it doesn’t seem to make much difference.

I have the same issue, it randomly turns off for no reason and I have to press the switch twice to turn it back on. This happens during regular use (office work, photos, ...) and even gaming, but it has never occurred while watching a video.
It might be a problem with the graphics drivers (ATI HD4850), I have changed versions twice since the issue started but nothing has changed.

Hi everyone,

Maybe the solution to the problem came from Microsoft (who would have thought...)

Indeed, my T220 hasn't turned off for more than a week now, and that coincides with the day I did an optional Windows update that mentioned my screen...

I will see if I can find the reference for this update and I'll come back to post it...

I'll still wait a few more days before declaring victory...

And damn it!! My screen went dark again yesterday in the middle of a game....

Sorry for the false hopes, the update didn't change anything...(I was thinking the same);-(

Hello BaalFrog

To solve my screen issue, it turns out that the magnetism from my PC speakers was apparently too close and ended up damaging the power button on it, that's what Samsung's customer service told me.

Since it has a 3-year warranty, I requested that it be replaced, a bit long but at least a working screen...

Hoping I have answered your request...
