Virtual Guitarist Frustré -
Hello,
For 12 days now, since the release of Guitar Hero World Tour in France, I have been trying to install it and, above all, to get it to work on my computer. The problem is that it doesn't even start if the guitar is plugged in. Furthermore, the songs only start when they feel like it. Each time, the familiar Windows message appears: "Guitar Hero World Tour has stopped working." All my drivers are up to date. Everything is official.
The PC is far from lacking power:
QuadCore Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 (2.33GHz)
4 GB of RAM
nVIDIA GeForce GT 120 (1024 MB)
LG W2361 23.6" Screen
1 TB Hard Drive
Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit
Wali Walou to your brains, Geeks ^^
I hope you have more ideas than I do because I'm stuck.
Thank you for your responses, see you later.

Hello!
Here's how I fixed the problem:
Start menu -> settings -> control panel -> classic view -> device manager.
In the menu that appears, I selected "Human Interface Devices" and in this submenu, I right-clicked on the item "Virtual HID Device" and disabled it.
The game launches without any issues now. My GH 3 guitar works great.
The tip isn't mine but belongs to the user Yogwan. Thanks to him!-

Hello,
I have a small issue (like the previous GH world tour that stopped working) but this happened after about a dozen concerts performed in a group. Once the song is finished, the screen freezes, and the only solution is to open the task manager. If someone can help me, thank you in advance.
I’m running on Windows Seven.

Hello.
I installed the game Guitar Hero World Tour on my PC, and I'm also using Vista. It shows me at startup "Guitar Hero World Tour has stopped working," while it works perfectly on XP.
I followed the solution you provided, but I can't find "Virtual HID Device"... what should I do?
Thank you. -
Hello everyone...
Like many of you, I found this game on sale for €25 at FNAC, which is great considering I still see it in other stores for €90. Anyway...
I come back super excited, I set everything up (the game plus the little battery management software, which I think is useless since I don't have one lol)
I connect the little box to link my guitar wirelessly, which I'm proud to wear around my neck and brandish like the guitar hero that I am... I launch the software, the CD icon spins, spins, spins and tttttooooouuuuurrrrnnnnneeee.... Then nothing...
I restart, honestly, at least twenty times, changing the compatibility settings, and the administration issue doesn't come up since I'm the only ADMINISTRATOR on this PC... But still nothing...
So I decide to unplug the connection box for my guitar just in case...
And lo and behold, the game launches without any issue, amazing I think to myself, being able to play a guitar game, well how to put it, without a guitar...
After going through many internet sites and tinkering, only ONE solution worked, so if it can help...
I am on an ACER Aspire 6930, Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 2.00GHz each, 4 GB of RAM, official Windows 7 32 Bits, an NVIDIA GEFORCE 9600 GS.
I went to the START menu > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager > Human Interface Devices, I disabled a THING called (WINBOND CIR Transceiver) and by disabling it, it turned off a bunch of little crap with a tiny controller icon on the right that was conflicting with my box.
After that, no more issues, the game works wonderfully.
If this can help... Good to know. -

Hi Stitch,
I'm not very well-versed in computers at all. I have the game Guitar Hero WT and like you, I have an ACER Aspire, but it's a 5820TG,
Windows 7 (I think 64 bits, not sure), Intel Core i5 processor 430M (2.26GHz each, 3MB L3 cache), an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 graphics card and Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD, 4GB of RAM.
Can my PC be compatible with this game? Because during installation, it bugs at about 1/10th of the way, so I stop.
If yes, what can I do to change that? I looked in Control Panel > Device Manager > and there I don't have any user interface devices, but I have system devices (about 20) or 1 image acquisition device (1.3M WebCam). I don't dare disable anything because I'm afraid of messing up my computer.
If you or someone could help me, that would be cool.
Thank you for your attention.

The PC is new; it's an HP Elite M9555 pavilion with 879 GB of space left, so I don't think that's the issue.
Sorry, but that's not it. -

Hello,
I have the same problem! The only difference is that my game refuses to launch completely. I am in contact with both the English and French support services. They have had me try tons of things that haven’t worked.
So far, there is no solution that works.
I opened a post on the guitar hero forum:

Sure thing. I'm sending as much information as possible to Activision, event explorer, etc. to ensure the issue is resolved as quickly as possible. As soon as I have a response or a solution, I will let you know.
See you! -
Hello everyone, while digging around, I found the solution to my crash (after several tests...):)
I went into the compatibility section of the exe file and set it to: compatible with 98!!!
and it works really well :D
So there you go for those who are still struggling with this PC version ^^
(I should mention that I'm on Vista)
Happy gaming everyone! -
Hello!
I also have the startup problem with Guitar Hero World Tour. The installation went smoothly, but when I try to start it to play, it shows me "Guitar Hero World Tour has stopped working" (I am on Vista). I can't find Virtual Device HID. I know how to change the compatibility of files to Windows NT 4, but I don't know which exe file to do it for (there are several). Could you quickly and clearly explain how to do it?
HELP!!!
Thank you in advance. -
The best way to get Guitar Hero World Tour to work with Windows Vista is to run it in compatibility mode for Windows NT 4 (running it in compatibility mode for Windows 98 has some slow performance issues, and running it in compatibility mode for Windows 2000 only works for novice mode).

Hello, I bought the game yesterday, and I spent part of the evening browsing the forums. I tried the compatibility solution, from Windows 95 to XP SP2, but nothing works, the same goes for the Virtual HID device solution, where I attempted to disable my 15 HID devices, but nothing works, it still won't run...
I can launch the game, but as soon as I select a song to play, it crashes...
I should specify that I'm running on Vista on a PC that's a little over a year old...
I saw on other forums that the Bluetooth connection of the guitar caused the software to crash, but I don't have a guitar, I want to play with my (wireless) keyboard... -
Hello
when I launch the game without the receiver, I can play but when I connect it while the game is running, it crashes completely
I've tried the device manager but I don't have a "virtual HID device"; when I connect the receiver, I see:
- "HID game controller"
- a new "user interface device"
when I disable the first one: I can play with the keyboard
when I disable the second one: oddly, I have no control in the game and the first one disappears from the device management panel
I don't know what to do anymore... HELP!
Thank you in advance -
Could the problem be that I don't have a Virtual Device HID?
And how can the guitar work if I disable "HID Game Controller"?
please help -
I have seven 64 bits and as some have mentioned, I also found this game for 25 euros at Fnac. After installing it, I realize that it doesn't work at all with the guitar and online they tell me that the game does not work with 64-bit versions. So I pulled out an old game I used to play with the keyboard: "Frets on Fire" and the guitar works very well on it. You will find a patch to get a little closer to Guitar Hero and you can also download music from almost all versions of Guitar Hero online. A good alternative for those who have been forgotten by the developers of this game ;).
Have fun everyone! -
Hello everyone
I have a small problem...
GH3 and GH2, installed on my PC, have always worked very well.
I recently bought GH4, played it for about a week before going back to 2 and 3, and now both games are bugging...
There are stutters but very regular, about every second, and it's really not great for playing... I restarted 4 to see if it still worked well, and I feel like it's bugging too... at least it's only noticeable in rehearsal mode.
Disabling the HID game control didn't change anything, so if anyone has a little idea...
Thank you in advance
(I'm on an HP G62 with Windows 7) -
Hello to all of you,
after a few months of extreme patience and intense research, I am finally reaching out to you.
I bought GHWT on eBay a few months ago with the guitar for PC.
I installed it on my PC equipped with Windows 7 64-bit. The guitar was not recognized and I came across your forum.
I DISABLED the VIRTUAL HID DEVICE in my device manager / User Interface Device as you recommended, and everything fell into place; I played for weeks and had a great time. (never any issues in the game, no crashes)
Then I wanted to install it on my laptop, also running Windows 7 64-bit,
installation went smoothly, I launched Guitar Hero and the guitar was not recognized (well, I know the procedure so I went to disable the virtual HID device) but now..... how do I do that? I don't have a virtual HID device on this computer.
Guitar Hero without the guitar is like shrimp without tails... (not sure about that analogy)
So my question is.... do you know how to install a "VIRTUAL" HID device to ensure my guitar is recognized again?
My transmitter is recognized as a HID Game Controller (which is normal) but there is no trace of the VIRTUAL HID device.
If you have any ideas, I'm all ears. -
Personally, I'm on Vista, I don't have a Virtual Device HID, but I reinstalled the game (I don't know if that had any impact, I doubt it), and I disabled, in the same thing as the HID, the "Infrared Receiver" (I had seen something like that on a forum) ... and now it's working very well :)

Hello everyone,
I also have the same problem as you with Guitar Hero World Tour on PC.
I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 running Vista.
The installation went very well, but when I plug the adapter into the USB port, either the game does not recognize the guitar, or the game stops working.
I've tried all the instructions presented on the forum, but nothing works.
Moreover, when I try to play with the keyboard, nothing happens.
Does anyone have a solution to my problem?
Thanks in advance for your responses. -
Good evening everyone,
I have the same problem except that I can play for about 30 minutes and it just so happens to stop when I reach the last song of the concert. When I restart the game, I find out that it hasn't saved my previous songs... argh... I have to start all over again. I’ve tried the methods mentioned above, I’ve done it on 98, on NT4, on 2000... Each time it gives me a little more reprieve, but it always ends the same way: "guitar hero world tour has stopped working..." and that makes me want to explode my PC. I should mention that I'm on Vista, that all my drivers are up to date, that the firewall is disabled, and that the resolution is set to minimum, please HELP...
Thank you in advance for your advice,
