My keyboard is eating my letters!!!!

Hello
I am using Windows XP Home Edition
I have a quick question, when I write for too long with my keyboard, and I make a typo, I go back, and when I want to rewrite my letters in front of the word I'm correcting, the word gets deleted; I have to make a big space to leave room for the word I'm correcting. Do you have a solution? I don’t understand, even when I repair my PC it still happens, what could it be? Thank you for your help.
