The NAVMAN website only offers an update for the user manual ... funny!

The dealer looks at me like I'm an alien when I mention it.

I'm looking for a site that could offer/provide a map update ... even if it's paid.

I own an ICN650 that I purchased two years ago at full price. In 2006, I requested a mapping update from NAVMAN. I was told that an update would be available in early 2007. I called a few days ago. The response was that the update for the 600 series has been abandoned, but in exchange, I could purchase an ICN 750 or an N60 for about €300. I asked if there would be ongoing updates for these devices, and the answer was "we don't know." There might be a mapping update in 2007 (unknown date and certainly false information from Navman). I also purchased a NavMan F20: Bug: when I request Boos at 76, it sends me to Le Vaudreuil 76, 20km from Boos!!! On the site, all updates are paid! No code updates! The USB connection: you have to BUY the software!!! And what's next? I'm already regretting my purchase after just 5 days! Don't buy this GPS. I had an old Garmin for 6 years, and it was perfect, with regular and free updates, free communication software (serial port), in short, long live Garmin! Down with Navman!

Note: SmartST V3.0 min is required to install radars or any other custom POIs

Download the list of radars http://www.alertegps.com/index1.asp

Unzip the ZIP file on your PC in a location you can find later
Connect your Navman to your PC
Launch the NAVMAN software on your PC
Click on Map > Points of Interest
Click on File > Open and choose the Navman file that has just been unzipped
Click on File > Save to Device
Choose the type of alert you want
Click on the [...] button to select the desired icon
Choose the Camera file
Click OK, give a name to the POI list like RADAR
Follow the on-screen instructions and that's it.

If you want to laugh...  We gave our in-laws a nice brand new F20.  The Paris region being a bit disturbing for someone from the north... that should help.  Departure from Lille: no problem.  Arrival in Saint Maur des Fossés: Unknown! Well... why not...  Let's change to Paris then...: Unknown!!!  I test it in Saint Maur: Maximum network!!! but the GPS doesn't detect its position. We are right in the middle of a field. And we have orders to find the first road to position the GPS. (All this in the Val de Marne nonetheless...)   If anyone can explain... I'm stumped. preferences -> card -> manage cards. If you have France (8/8), everything is activated. If you have France (7/8), you are missing one region... etc,
Click on France and check the region(s) that are not activated...
Don't forget to validate at the bottom right of the screen and you're all set...

I bought the N20. I can tell you that the NAVMAN mapping leaves much to be desired, at least the indicated routes! Indeed, I tested the GPS on a road I take every day, a departmental road that looks more like a national one because it's so clean and wide, connecting my village to a city without changing roads (20 km). Well, the GPS managed to lead me to take a 7 km detour to pass through a small lost village, and I’ve encountered this on other routes in my region. This GPS does whatever it wants, and I have tried all the settings; I’m an experienced user of electronic devices, computers, etc. ... so I’m sure I'm using it correctly! Moreover, it lacks roundabouts, new roads, even though they’ve been built for five years already!  A piece of advice: DON’T buy NAVMAN! Because if you want to update it, you pay nearly the price of the device again! I just updated it with the provided software; it was able to do a free update for France, but I no longer have Europe ... GREAT ... ;o( and when you try to connect to the NAVMAN site via the software, it says that no license is registered .. so when you buy a NAVMAN, you buy the device with mapping that is outdated by decades and you get your wallet out for the rest ... if it even works ...!!!  VERY DISAPPOINTED, ANGRY, by the way, it has been sitting in a drawer since the second week after I bought it, that’s three months now!

Hi Aishoo, you probably have a recent car, so your problem is simple: you have a thermal windshield! That means it filters UV rays and protects against heat, and you noticed that it also "protects" from positioning satellites. The remedy is simple: a small antenna stuck just behind your rearview mirror is the only place where the windshield is not UV-treated! There you go!

Hello, I have a problem with the F20 when I connect it to my PC with a USB cord, it's working fine I downloaded the Navman update from the internet and executed it without any issues however, I downloaded a radar update file from AlertGPS and I can't transfer it to my GPS, actually my computer does not give me direct access to the folders contained in my GPS is this situation normal? The ICN 530 comes with a set of CDs. Install the smart st software and then you can reinstall the France mapping from CD 2. If the software asks you for keys, click on tool -> get information... If you have lost the CDs, contact Navman at 0170994803.

I totally agree with you, the ICN 510 is a huge piece of junk that loses track all the time and constantly recalculates its route. Even with an external antenna, I'd still prefer a map of Paris because I get there faster. As for the update, the salesman told me it was easy, just go on the Navman website and voilà, done... Except I have never managed to do an update, and yet I'm always handling computers. Let's add that Navman never responds to emails and they won't be seeing me again anytime soon. I'm a sales rep and always on the road, and I'll soon be putting my GPS in its proper place, which is the trash.

Overall I am happy with mine, but I would add a downside, it is very slow to find a satellite. I have a car that is over 10 years old so it's not a windscreen problem. Hello,

There are 3 types of updates: software, radar, and map updates. These are 3 distinct and different things!
Only software updates (corrective service packs) are free.
Unfortunately, all map updates are paid... And yes, don't forget that Navman is the manufacturer of the devices and that the digital mapping publisher is TeleAtlas! Navman only compiles this digital data to integrate it into the devices. Moreover, to date, there is no manufacturer that offers free map updates... And yes, even TomTom's MapShare system is not a mapping update since these are data (roundabouts or roadwork) that you will be able to add to your old map through their website... but the base of your map will remain the same. New streets will not appear by themselves in your device...
For radar updates, there are 2 options: either a paid subscription via Navman or free data provided by individuals via www.alertegps.com. It's up to you to decide based on your budget and the service you want.

The mapping and the screen really determine the price of the devices. So if you want a good piece of advice, if your mapping is sufficient for you, don't buy map updates and opt to change devices every 2 or 3 years on average. This way you'll benefit from the latest map update included in the new device, from technological evolution, and especially from 2 years of warranty! The good point for Navman is the customer service with a hotline at the cost of a local call. And on this, most manufacturers will likely not be able to say the same...

I messed up with the keys!! PUT 1!! I'm starting over I only have my NAVMAN F 20 and that's it! No CD.. I plug in the USB cable and turn on my GPS.. a window appears with a PC and the GPS and a connection that blinks between the two and that's it!.. nothing happens.. I've tried various downloads, updates but nothing happens beyond that image... and when using the GPS... no new speed cameras detected and no update made to the road network.. Hello,  To change the language:  press the rectangular button on the right side of the screen that shows 4 small squares,  then select "system" (it's the 3rd one on the first line)  then select "language" (it's the first one on the second line)  and choose your language.

Hello.  I'm not stressing about it, I bought a NAVMAN GPS a year ago, and as for the updates, I buy them every month on eBay. Some sellers offer them for a modest sum (3 Euros), they are very well done and come with an installation tutorial that makes things a lot easier. Plus, we receive them by email, it's almost instant, you pay and you get them in the afternoon!!!!!  See you!

Given everything we can read, it reassures me in the idea that Navman takes its customers for idiots.  Not to mention the impossible updates, it is a real obstacle course. Navman also scammed me out of 300 euros to repair a 60 I that costs 500 euros new and was only 15 days old!!  Needless to say, I promote Navman to all my campervan friends!!!

One piece of advice, forget about your Navman. I bought an ICN530 some time ago, and I regret that purchase. One day it took me down a dirt path for 2 kilometers used by tractors. I found myself like on rails, the underside of the car scraping, impossible to turn around or go backwards, it was 11:30 PM. A pitch-black night, without a moon, deep in the countryside, with puddles of water in places. It seemed like an eternity; with every second that passed, my fear of being stuck there grew. I had to keep my cool to avoid the mistake that would have condemned me to sleep in the car waiting for the first tractor to pass to get me out of there. This GPS, I programmed it to avoid highways, but it doesn’t care as soon as it detects one; it desperately wants to take you there. Through: "Make a U-turn" and if you don’t comply, it can take over 5 minutes to recalibrate to find its position. And when it finally does, it tells you to take the first right or left, whichever, to always steer you towards the highway you refused. Since then, I bought another GPS, a BECKER 7926 (much cheaper than the Navman) equipped with Navteq mapping. Moreover, I can listen to MP3s, view photos or videos on it. When I drive, I cover a lot of kilometers, I install both, and there’s no comparison; while the Navman insists on always making me take the highway and shows impressive additional kilometers compared to the Becker on certain routes. Recently, I was about to cross the Tancarville bridge, I was about thirty kilometers from Le Havre (where I was going) and the Navman displayed 130 kilometers; it was only after I crossed the bridge that it showed the same mileage as the Becker. This is just one example among many. By the way, the Becker can be programmed for different types of vehicles as well as for pedestrians and it has no problem with updates. It has its flaws like all GPS devices, but I am very satisfied with it. I almost forgot, the Becker, when you’re driving, shows your speed, altitude, announces the speed limit (via a sign) on the road you’re on, fixed speed cameras, etc... Go check the demo on the site.

Yet, some say it's free and possible, but no one has responded when it should be done, so I doubt it's really possible. I can't help you in any case, and I'm really sorry because if someone knows how to do it, they should explain it to us, otherwise it will always be the same thing—we will always depend on these big brands that are stringing us along!
