Hello,
When I start my Freebox TV, the FREEBOX message displays normally, but a few seconds later, the message ERROR 58 appears and no image shows on the screen.
I have tried rebooting several times without success, resynchronized via an ethernet cable (my TV box being on WIFI) but nothing works. Internet is working fine though...
I can't find any forum or any answer online regarding an ERROR 58 on Freebox HD TV, so I’m reaching out to the experts at commentcamarche to see if this has happened to someone else and especially what I should do?

Well, I wrote to FREE by email, and the technical solution they gave me works!
However, you really had to know it; honestly, I never could have found the solution on my own.
For those who will encounter the same problem, here are the steps to follow:
Contact us to inform us that your Box is stuck on error 58.
I invite you to completely reset both of your boxes beforehand.
1) Reset your ADSL Box
- Unplug the ADSL Freebox from the power supply
- Plug it back in
- Wait for the display to light up
- Unplug the ADSL Freebox again when "88:88" appears
- Repeat this operation four times in a row
This way, the Freebox will update, which you will see by observing a line of 4 horizontal lines sweeping across the display during its cycle.
2) Then reset your HD Box
(the ADSL Box and the HD Box must be connected via an ethernet cable)
- Unplug the HD Box from the power supply
- Plug it back in while pressing one of the buttons located on the front
- Release the button as soon as you see the word "FIRMWARE" appear (after about 5 seconds)
The Box should then display all the startup steps as well as the initialization phases of the services.
You can then unplug the ethernet cable and reconnect the HD Box to your TV.
Thank you for your trust. -
Apparently (I said apparently) Free is a scam! They give you machines that break down and then they force you to pay around €50-100!
If I were you, I would have gone for Neuf or NeufBox SFR. (and definitely not Orange) -
Hello
Free is great when it works, but when it breaks down, you’re in trouble... so for that, go take a look, it’s not Free, it’s the subscribers and there will be plenty of answers....

Hello
I’m happy for you that you found a solution. I already knew this one because it’s as old as FREE and is called "Hard Reboot". This triggers a complete update of your Freebox by turning it off and on as they told you. What they didn’t mention is that you need to do not four but five unplugging actions, and you have to interrupt them when the LED sequence starts. After that, on the fifth time, let it finish its work, and when the time displays, if you’re using the PCMCIA card for Wi-Fi, you need to turn it off and on once more to activate that accessory, otherwise the LED indicators won’t light up and you won’t have active Wi-Fi.
If you’re using the ADSL TV mode, you also need to reset the picture format if you changed it before (16:9 or 4:3).
See you!
