Framing in Open Office

Hello,

I just switched to Linux, and therefore to OpenOffice, and I truly believe that you can do a lot with it, but it's quite different from Microsoft Word, so I'm struggling to find certain things.

For example, I would like to be able to frame portions of text with just a click somewhere (like in Microsoft Office with the border options), so without going through "paragraph/border." There you go, and I should specify that the text to be framed can be heterogeneous (so it doesn't work with paragraph styles apparently).

Thanks in advance!
Configuration: Linux Firefox 3.0.8

Hi !!
By the way, just an idea..
You select your text and then click on the table icon. It should probably frame your text.

Hi,

try in the menu: view then toolbar then drawing, then the 3rd icon at the bottom of the drawing bar, click on it, draw your box wherever you want, then change the default fill style from color to invisible and there you have your frame.

good luck

Thank you, it works very well this way and it's not complicated to do; it's nice to see that there are nice people who really help while others take pleasure in making things complicated for you. Thanks again, I struggled for a good hour before finding you, Corentin, have a great weekend and maybe see you later for more questions.

Thank you for your suggestion, but it's a hassle; it doesn't frame the text, it creates an independent rectangle.

Thank you for your responses, but:

For the first solution (drawing a rectangle), it gives me a drawing (so it's not "linked" to the text), it's longer to do than "paragraph/border" and it doesn't frame (we have to draw a frame around it ourselves).

For the second solution, it creates a table (for example, one cell), but without the selected text inside, so not very practical.

In fact, the desired result is what you get by selecting the text to be framed, right-clicking / paragraph / border / ... Except that in Microsoft Word, this border option is integrated into the toolbar. The idea is to "create" or place this shortcut in OpenOffice (considerable time-saving depending on the work to be done).

Thank you
