Ati Radeon MOBILITY HD 4650 Drivers Solved

Question

Hello,
I am looking for the driver for my graphics card on a Toshiba Satellite P300-1GK:
It's an Ati Radeon Mobility HD 4650

- Do not suggest the drivers from Toshiba, they are not compatible!
- Do not suggest the drivers from the AMD website, they are not available, and the hardware detection assistant indicates that the system is not compatible with the Catalyst drivers.
- Even the Radeon DH Mobility Modder has not been updated for this graphics card yet!

So if anyone finds the drivers somewhere, or a substitute driver that allows full use of the GPU, please let me know!

Here you go, I've made my little foam mod ^^

To install the GPU on XP, download the drivers (the driver pack only, not the Catalyst Control Center!!!) from the AMD site for Radeon HD 4600 Series (non-Mobility):

Running the .exe will extract the contents to C:\ATI\Support\9-5_xp32_dd\

Open the CX_80257.inf file located in C:\ATI\Support\9-5_xp32_dd\XP_INF\ with Notepad

Under the title [ATI.Mfg.NTx86], find the line that corresponds to your graphics card ("ATI Radeon HD 4650" = ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9498)

Replace the line with this: "ATI Radeon HD 4650" = ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9480&SUBSYS_FF501179

Then manually install your graphics card from the device manager by pointing to the folder containing the .inf

AND IT WORKS!!! (Tested on Sacred 2, it runs great without overheating ;) )

It should specify the OS.  They were released on Windows 7.  Otherwise, I can give you my drivers on my Acer (I have the same graphics card) compatible with Vista.

I also have the same PC as Dallap, the Toshiba P300-1GK, which is very good by the way, but I have the same problem as you. I can't find any drivers for the Mobility Radeon HD 4650 and it's starting to annoy me. That's why I would be very happy if you find the solution. XD

I also bought the Toshiba Satellite P300-1GK laptop and I tried to install the drivers from the AMD website but it doesn't work.

Is it possible to get the graphics card temperature with the original drivers?
I've already tried with ATI TRAY TOOL but it doesn't show the temperature.

For now, the drivers are available only for Windows 7, so we'll have to wait :/

Windows 7 RC apparently comes out on May 5, so we have two options: either we wait for the new version of Microsoft's OS to be released, or we be patient and wait for the release of the 9.4 drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon 4***.

I am waiting for the GT725 (shortage) and if I have to wait too long, I will take either this one or the Qosmios https://www.materiel.net/ but the processor is bad.

Hello everyone,  Indeed, this card is hard to install on XP. The trick is in the Catalyst; you need to use a mobile Catalyst and then the drivers from the Toshiba site, and it will work.

For the paid restoration disc thing, well, at the first start, remember to create the recovery media using 1 or 2 blank DVDs and that's it.

The catalyst to take is ATI CCC modder, you can easily find it. Install it along with the driver available on the site (for the driver, force the installation as the accompanying software doesn't install). The catalyst modder will replace it.

As I said at the beginning, this card is a 4650, the mobility modder stops at version 3XXX so it doesn't work for this card and the other 4XXX (I have already tested... as well as Omega driver and DNA driver)

Hello Astarox, could you tell me how you achieve 7000 in 3DMark 2006? Because aside from overclocking the CPU or the graphics card ^^' I can only reach about 6600.

It works now
we noticed in the workshop that the VID present on the device manager is not the same as the one in the INF file of the driver from the ATI site
it was enough to change the VID in the INF file and perform a manual installation from the device manager; the resolution works well and the game too, but I don't know if this could cause a overheating problem for the card, especially on laptops, since ATI only manufactures the graphics chip and the card is made by the manufacturer.
I will clarify this after some tests
and I will keep you updated on the outcome.

Hello,  I have a Toshiba p300-220 with the same ati 4650 graphics card, Windows Vista 32 and the same problem...  I tried the latest Toshiba display driver. Updated the Vista BIOS with the latest update available on the Toshiba website. Tried the latest ati driver: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/com­mon-vista32 Updated Vista to SP2 just in case...  And finally tested the procedure described by dallap.  I found 2 .inf files: one CL* and one CW* I found the line "ATI Radeon HD 4650" = ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9498 and made the modification.  But it still doesn't work. Anyone have an idea or a solution?

I solved the problem after multiple manipulations.  I removed the Windows update KB952287.  Changed the desktop display to classic Windows.  Uninstalled previous versions of ATI Catalyst.  Manually installed the latest Catalyst 9.7 driver (you need to let it search for available drivers then click the "provided disk" button and specify the driver in the ATI directory created by the installation of 9.7).   I edit the drivers' .ini file, and I see the line ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9498 in it. I don't modify anything.   Uninstalling ATI from the program manager. (Not removing all ATI, but custom removal and I removed what I could...)  Reboot, my card is recognized as an AMD and no longer as an ATI 4650. Strange.  Still the atikmdag problem.   Switching to the old "customized" driver. Still the problem. Switching back to the new driver.   Uninstalled Adobe which was opening a blank document at each reboot.  CC Cleaner.   And strangely, I no longer have the problem. All game settings on max, it works. (Eve Online).

When my position came into being, the mobility modder hadn't released the final version 1.2.1.0 yet, so it didn't work with this graphics card. Now that they have fixed that, it's true that my technique is not very useful anymore :) but it's the same principle (except that I did it manually).

Hello, I followed this post but I didn't find the answer to my question, so I'm asking you.  I have an HP with Vista 32 bits and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650.  However, when I go to the ATI site, it sends me here: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/common-vista32  Where they talk about a driver for ATI Radeon HD 4650, the term mobility does not appear anymore. Can I use this driver? Because the HP site given earlier in this post has a driver from March, while this one is from September.  Thank you in advance.
