SATA Hard Drive 2: Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS - 1TB SATA II 32MB

Hello

I bought a 1TB SATA hard drive (Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS - 1TB SATA II 32MB
) to increase my storage capacity.
Since my motherboard does not support SATA connections, I bought an adapter that connects to the SATA hard drive and allows me to plug in the IDE cable and connect the standard power supply of IDE hard drives:
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180337255503&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:FR:11

My problem is that this SATA hard drive automatically sets itself as master while Windows is installed on my IDE hard drive, which ends up as slave: therefore my PC won't boot and I get stuck on the page summarizing the devices.
I have tried all jumper positions, without the jumpers, changing the order of connections on the IDE cable, and modifying the BIOS to choose which hard drive to boot from: nothing works, the SATA hard drive always stubbornly sets itself as master (when recognized).

A few clarifications:
- I want to keep my Windows installation on my IDE and use my SATA only for storing data.
- The second IDE connection on my motherboard is already taken by my CD-ROM and DVD burner (and my motherboard only has 2 IDE connections).

MY QUESTIONS:
- How can I make this pesky SATA hard drive become slave and my IDE become master?
- Do you have any other solutions besides this adapter to connect the SATA?

My additional question:
in case this solution involves a PCI card with 2 SATA / 1 IDE internal (http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=220391695088
I have a novice question (noob, casual computer user, tenderfoot, etc...mock me, mock me):
regarding the power supply of the SATA hard drive, with this PCI card how will the power be supplied:
- by the motherboard? (through the PCI card)
- or does the SATA hard drive need to connect elsewhere? (for example, with a power cable from the hard drive that connects to the motherboard)

That's it, I believe I haven't forgotten anything.

Thank you in advance, good sirs and madams.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.0.8

Hi. So, on SATA hard drives, there's no master-slave setting because they are the only ones on the SATA cable.
So... in your case, the setting should be on the adapter...

What I recommend you do is either:

- Leave this SATA hard drive as master, and set your other drive as SLAVE, and then set in the BIOS for the SLAVE drive to boot first. I'm convinced you can do this; either you have a setting where you directly select the hard drive to boot first, or you have something like C, CDROM, floppy (a list) and the letter C corresponds to the primary master, D -> primary slave, E -> secondary master, F -> secondary slave....

- Second solution, connect your system drive as primary master (like currently, with your CD drive as slave on the same cable, and on the second cable, your SATA hard drive as master, and the burner as slave.
