Hello,
I have a little problem that has been occurring for about a week. At startup, there is a loud metallic noise (which wasn't there a few days before). At the beginning of the problem, a restart would cause the PC to boot up quietly. But now, nothing works. I suspect a fan, but I don't know which one because I can't open my case. I know it's ridiculous, but I really can't manage it. I've removed the screws, tried everything, but to no avail.
I have a Packard Bell iMedia F9218, and I'm not sure if you need more information.
Thanks in advance

Can you describe the noise in more detail?
Depending on the noise, it could be a fan or the hard drive.
Is it a clicking sound, a high-pitched noise, a grinding noise, clong-clong, clac-clac???
It may seem silly, but it can help.
Do you see an error message on the screen???
To open the PC, there should be a latch in addition to the screws.
Look to open the side panel on the side where there isn’t the motherboard.
If you are facing the PC, it’s usually the left side that opens (usually, as there are exceptions).-
It's a kind of metallic rattling. A dull metallic noise. I would say more like a clong-clong, definitely not high-pitched.
Otherwise, no error message.
I also saw the latches, but without success, impossible to open even with force.- Don't force it; it's never good. You might hurt yourself with the casing or break the PC.
From the noise, it could be the hard drive that has a problem.
Is it a noise that persists or does it stop after a while? Can the system start or not?
I advise you to test the hard drive and especially, if you haven't done so already, to back up as much of your data as possible before you lose your important documents.
If it's the hard drive, it won't be long before it completely fails.
To test it, there's this for example:

Good luck!

Well, it's a noise that persists even if sometimes it's muted. But sometimes the noise is so huge that I can hear it from the floor below. After several restarts, the noise quiets down. Sometimes it even "disappears," but not at the moment, lol.
Otherwise, it starts up correctly.
I have an external hard drive, so I back up and run the test.
Thank you. -
I just turned on the hard drive, and comparing its noise to that of the PC, it’s not at all the same type of noise, so I doubt it’s coming from the hard drive. It sounds more like a fan noise. It’s really metallic, like the sound of a washing machine drum that has a problem, lol. Fortunately, it’s not as loud.

I launched the test, restarted, and followed everything to the letter, but I don't know what I was supposed to deduce from this test, lol. It just restarted my PC, lol.

The test only runs by restarting from the CD.
There's no point in clicking on the CD when you're under Windows.
If it's not the hard drive, then it could be a fan that is "misaligned" or a wire that is touching a fan.
I found the reference for your PC and therefore the case that goes with it.
You should open the case to see if there's a problem with a fan.
To open it, you need to disconnect everything, lay the PC on its side, press on the side panel and push it backwards.
Make sure that the latch at the back is indeed on the unlocked padlock symbol. -
Thank you very much, I'll try
(I was launching the test by restarting as indicated) -
I relaunched the test and I got a little surprise (not necessarily a good one, it’s even the opposite)
the test program told me that the hard drive is not detected or that there is a disk problem
so now I’m wondering if it’s not related to the disk (even if it seems more like a fan noise). And if that’s the case, what should I do?
I’m still going to open the case and see. -
I opened the case (when you know how to do it, it's all simple, no need to force anything ^^ thank you very much)!
I then checked the main fan, there was nothing, the mini fan for the processor was the same, and I had a doubt about the fan of the power supply, and since it is in a case, it's not easy to see. I started the PC while the case was open, and the noise was not coming from the hard drive but from the fan of the power supply. Now that I know where the sound is coming from (which I can no longer stand lol), what should I do? Can I open the power supply or should I change it?
(thanks again for your responses) -
Yes, I inquired and saw that it's being sold and that it's not too expensive, so I think I will buy one soon (which one? I don't know, lol) and I'll check that the noise has indeed disappeared.
Thank you very much once again. -
Well, I didn't really have time to go buy the case, but I'm taking a quick look at the site again so I don't "pollute" the stats because I was really helped out, so once again, thank you very much for the response time. The noise is probably coming from there, so for me, the problem is solved (since I know where it comes from); all that's left is to buy the case.
