Hello!

At the risk of someone cracking up seeing my question, I'm diving in to try to deepen my knowledge:

- What is a partition?

Phew! That was tough, but I made it! Thank you for answering me in not too complicated terms... (I'm not a whiz at computers.)

      in a few words: a partition is a part of the volume of your hard drive e.g.: you have an 80GB hard drive, you can have two volumes on this same drive, you divide the total space of your hard drive into two volumes, one volume of 40GB and the other the remaining free space.

      If you compare it to a plot of land of 1000m², you want to divide it to have two parcels to build two houses, okay you get it, on the same land you have two buildable areas, so for a hard drive, it's just the same, you divide it by creating partitions.
