black screen + CPU fan not running

Question

Hello,

This weekend I removed my graphics card to lend it to a friend.
He will return it to me on Sunday. I put it back in my PC.
Black screen and the cooler no longer spins.
Yesterday I tested my graphics card and it works. The screen works too.
Do you have any idea what the error might be?

The symptoms you're describing are typical of a noob's failure.

Indeed, when you disassembled your graphics card, your motherboard took a hit of static electricity ... which killed it.

A motherboard to replace, that's what you have left to do.

A PC isn't a moped, there are precautions to take before fiddling around inside

graphics card: 8800 GTS motherboard: Asus p5k the CPU fan as well as the graphics card fan are no longer spinning. but in another PC, the graphics card works perfectly.

I'm not worried about your graphics card, but the motherboard… If the CPU fan isn't spinning anymore, it’s probably due to a problem with the motherboard or the power supply. Have you checked that all the connections haven't moved? The 24-pin power connector, the 4-pin (or 8-pin) connector, and the additional power supply for the 8800 GTS, if there is one?

I also thought about the motherboard, but the fans connected to the motherboard are working. There's also a green LED that is on. Can the motherboard be dead despite these details?

Yes, it's possible, but I don't think so. If you have another power supply, I recommend installing it on your setup; otherwise, you can try a Clear CMOS. And of course, if you have another graphics card, also test with that one to clearly identify the issue.

My power supply is working perfectly.
So I really think it's the motherboard.
