Hello,
my AD6008 power adapter for the 500G Western Digital hard drive has burned out. I've checked all possible websites and stores, and I can't find a replacement. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

If anyone is interested, I found one on eBay (around €25). The seller has a whole stock.

I also found myself in the same situation.
The power supplies on eBay come from the USA and are way too expensive.
The solution: I ordered a case from Cdiscount, model ref: Advance DD BX-3802STB, which cost me €13.16 (excluding shipping).
You just need to remove the old hard drive (5 small screws) and slide it into the new case.
This model was recommended to me by a computer colleague, but apparently other case models can work as long as they are of type SATA 3"5.

        Hello!!

I also have a transformer problem with my wd6400h1u...
Is it really a 3.5 SATA disk inside??

        Thank you in advance

My old singer friend had the same problem with her disc.
Indeed, there's a guy on eBay selling a lot (that means a lot).

Since an eBay link has a lifespan of only a few months, here are some information/tips.

    Search for "AD6008".
Sort by price; for your information, I just bought it (with PayPal!) for €8.08 (auction) and €5.38 for shipping (€11.99USD/$7.99USD).
The seller is called shop236 and he ships it from Hong Kong, don’t worry, there’s no danger.
The listing is called "AC Adapter Ad6008, DA-30C01, RS-E02AB for WD HD & more USA".

This type of power supply is a bit special since it provides two different voltages (12v and 5v at the same time).
But still, it’s kind of crazy that it fails like this for so many people.
Well, for my friend, it happened after 2 years, so it’s okay, it's on all the time.

Right now it’s €15 and it will arrive at your place in 2 weeks.

There are electronics component stores where you can find universal adapters that match the same specifications needed to operate your external hard drive.
Check the Yellow Pages and type in electronic components as part of your search criteria....
If you are in Paris, you have Quentin Radio near Gare du Nord.
    Good luck.

Quentin Radio next to Gare du Nord doesn't have it, I stopped by. They advised me to go do a Chinese tour on Rue Montgallet. I'll give it a try. Then ... eBay.

Hello, I experienced exactly the same thing with the same adapter for the same WD hard drive.
Fortunately, I had just acquired a SAMSUNG multirecord speedplus external USB DVD recorder that has exactly the same 5-pin connector. I just need to switch from one to the other.
    Best regards

It happened to me the same thing yesterday - and I wanted to know how to be sure it's the adapter and not the hard drive. The adapter is flickering weakly intermittently - but the hard drive doesn't light up.

Hello, I have the same problem with my power supply that just failed on my Western Digital external drive (ref: AD6008). Where can we find this power supply or an equivalent? Thank you.

    Hello everyone,

The power supply for my Western Digital 500GB HDD: "acbel AC Adapter ad6008" also burnt out!
It seems there is a fault with these adapters!?

    Hello,

I just ordered one on eBay via the link for AD6008 => http://cgi.befr.ebay.be/AC-Adaptor-5V-12V-RS-E02AB-Same-APD-DA-30C01-AD6008_W0QQitemZ270391171845QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Computing_CablesConnectors_RL?hash=item270391171845&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

Otherwise, the solution is to buy a new external hard drive enclosure, https://www.ldlc.com/recherche/cat.html/

Or buy an IDE/SATA to USB adapter and with that, you have the power for the drive: https://www.pearl.fr/article/PE8193/adaptateur-ide-usb-2-0-externe

So 3 solutions all around +/- 30 euros.

This happened to me yesterday afternoon, I had it for three weeks. I think the manufacturer should do something. This is not normal.

It's true that the manufacturer should reconsider their design; I had the same misadventure just as the warranty expired - nothing more unpleasant - and finding a replacement transformer is really a hassle. I opted to buy an enclosure for a 3.5" SATA disk, and I was able to reuse my hard drive.

    Hello everyone,

here's my situation, 2 power supplies at the same time, it's barely been 12 months since I got these hard drives.
For my case, I will check with the seller (2-year warranty), a tip for the future, I will do the same, check and only buy external drives with a standard 12V power supply, much easier to find anywhere.

    For those who understand.

Same problem with 2 disks purchased for my company, it's a shame, the power supplies lasted 3 and 7 weeks respectively!!!!

Ah, the famous AcBel and this damn made in China that invades us everywhere, I think the best solution is the one given by "no nickname", to change the entire external case!! Because buying another AcBel that will last a few weeks, no thanks...

And thanks also to Western Digital for putting cheap power supplies in your external hard drives, I feel like you're not going to see me again anytime soon...

On my side, the problem is different; it's not the adapter that has suffered, but the connection (connection error...).

If you continue to follow the issue, I would be interested in taking one of your adapters in order to recover the cable to repair mine.

Please reply to me via private message.

      Have a nice day.

It's a big brand, certainly, but the adapter was not manufactured by Western Digital but by ASIAN POWER DEVICES. Don't take it out on them but rather on APD!

There is a quality control at WD, and they are responsible for their products. They have to manage their suppliers.

So for me, after waiting almost 3 weeks, the only solution offered by the store is an additional 30CHF in exchange for the disk... and a 1000Go instead of the 640Go... or 69CHF per disk... the power supplies are no longer available... GREAT! I opted for the +30CHF option = about 18€ BYE.

    Hello, and another penguin...
WD elements desktop 1 terabyte (Grosbill), 1 year: burnt transformer...
impossible to find, Grosbill doesn’t sell them (have to buy the drive with it...)

Congratulations to Western Digital, to Grosbill (who must be starting to be aware..) and to made in China which doesn't come out any better...

I also just broke the power supply of my WD 640GB external hard drive.
It's outrageous to see how many people have this problem....
The warranty runs out in 10 days.
So there's no time to lose.
Do you have the address for WD, or did you go through the store where you bought your equipment?

      Best regards

They are responsive at WD, they are sending me a new power supply within 10 days!
So, to benefit from the service, you must not have lost your receipt for the warranty!

What’s the point of recommending the same power supply that will fry in a few weeks/months?

I would like to repost the same message, as one of you might be of valuable help to me. I do not have a burned adapter, but rather a cable that has been mistreated.

I would like to know, given the number of people who find themselves with a burned power supply, if one of you would agree to lend me their cable (by sending it at my expense), so that I can solve the problem without having to buy a complete power supply, as that one is still working properly.

    Thank you!

I also have a burned power supply on my 500 external WD. I understand that it is possible to change the casing since the power supply is becoming hard to find. Is the process difficult to perform? Thank you for your clarification. Best regards.

Only buy if the seller is in the European Union and not, for example, in China or the United States.

    Hello,

I had the same problem with the power supply that burned out on my WD external hard drive. The problem is easy to solve. You just need to buy a blank hard drive enclosure (I found one at Saturn Planet) and transfer the hard drive. It's very easy to do. Just disconnect 2 pins from one and connect them to the other. I did it myself, and it works; I recovered all my data.

    See you soon!

Same here, I'm furious, knowing myself I will never find the receipt... Is the warranty 3 years for all WD drives?

I find it disgraceful from a manufacturer like WD, I remember that my choice of hard drive was primarily based on security, even if it meant paying a little more, specifically to avoid this kind of issue...

It's not Western Digital's fault, but ASIAN POWER DEVICES that is the manufacturer of the adapter.
